The problem is many artists don't keep their pages as up to date as their twitter or god forbid, tumblr, anymore. And some good shit are hidden deep inside 40-picture packs instead of being more visible

I just browse the Japanese tags for series I like. Most western artists use English tags so I avoid them this way. There will always be a range of artists from beginners to experts on these kinds of sites.

Speaking of twitter, why did artists start using it for art anyways? It's a bit baffling since its interface is about as unfriendly to finding art as it gets. Because so many artists now use Twitter and sometimes never bother to even upload what they drew to their Pixiv. Twitter is causing a lot of laziness in artwork because now people uploading there get instant gratification and feedback for less work in their litttle hugbox. Some of my favorite artists just put way less effort into their drawings because they still get a large amount of feedback regardless of quality. Then when they make about 10 poorly made drawings they then finally upload them all to Pixiv under one submission.

The best way to use pixiv is to follow people and then use the feed to see who they are following and what they are bookmarking. The more people you follow the better this works because generally at least some of the people you follow will have decent taste and you get a better idea of what's actually popular and trending.

It's a gigantic site for artists. Artists come and go, change styles and develop different interests. Trends and fads in what's drawn and how it's drawn also have an effect and change regularly. There is beautiful art and ugly art uploaded daily and/or weekly just as ever.

One of the only real effects I've seen is the rise of other sites, most notably twitter, where some artists post exclusively.

From what I can tell, those are just curated sites where all the good pixiv art ends up anyway, with user-suggested tags, better UX, and without all the lowest-quality shit.

Danbooru is a club managed by a select handful of people who only upload what they like and dismiss perfectly good stuff just because it's not their fetish of favourite artist.
Gelbooru has less restrictions but way more fujoshi focused content and new uploads are often flooded by garbage such as 3dpd trannies. Not to mention the tagging is worse than danbooru.

If you don't know Japanese then you're best off using their tag wiki to find the moonrunes for things you're interested in and get into pixiv. It has a lot of shit but it beats relying on retarded reuploaders to tell you what you should and shouldn't like.

Plenty of art never gets uploaded to either work because someone didn't find them good enough or didn't even know it existed, and even more art doesn't show up on Danbooru because os the moderator team that enforces "quality" (read: only images that they personally like).

A good way to go about this is using a booru until you find an artist you like, seeing if there's a link to their pixiv in any of their images, and then following them there. Tags on pixiv tend to be only useful for finding characters from anime or games, or for great things like 大平原の小さな胸 and 極上の貧乳, but even then they aren't 100% accurate.

Search for whatever series you want, then put users after it. Say like 東方 users or 東方 諏訪子 users if you want cute frogs. All the art you see should be pretty good. Find the artists you like through here, and follow them. Keep doing this whenever you feel like, and eventually you'll have a large collections of artists you like. When you get enough you can just browse your followed artists and get mostly good stuff. I get 2-3 new pages of stuff to look through everyday. Bookmark and rate the image if you want to help the artist get a higher rank.
