Rewrite sucked. Its anime looks terrible. That new kinetic thing they're doing on Steam is going to be another Planetarian. Key isn't worth my time anymore.

Absolutely. Clannad, Kanon, Air, and Little Busters will always have a special place in my heart. I replay them every so often and they are still my favorite visual novels. I haven't played rewrite yet though.

I dunno, I liked the slow unveil and realization that this was a work based on supernatural events veiled under cutting edge technology, alongside the entire idol obsession and focus on perfect, mass produce-able, and disposable idols actually does reflect the state of things now some. It's not a legendary anime, but does good and i still unique enough that more people should see it.

It's like complaining about "forced mystery" because the protagonist of a detective story happens to stumble into murder mystery after murder mystery.


Obviously there are circumstances that would push things too far beyond the suspension of disbelief and cause a reader to break immerson, even in genre works. Think "the quadruple amputee happened to get cancer just after her parents died" or something, but that level is not even remotely approached in Key works.

Disbelief is when the internal logic of the show is countered by an event in the show. So if it's proven in-universe that there's no magic, magic popping up to conveniently solve a dilemma later one would be beyond the suspension. The same reason people don't have a problem with magic in media, but when it is vaguely defined or counters rules mentioned prior people start to have problems with it.

Can someone tell me how Rewrite is bad, I haven't played it yet but I have played all of Keys other VNs and loved them. I just want to know if it's worth playing or not.

Music's not as good overall, even though there a few good tracks. The girls have veered towards generic anime cliches even more than they were before. Art's not as unique. Excessively long (longer than Clannad if I recall). Starts extremely slowly and doesn't get interesting until the middle/end.

Not to mention the idea that people can only find plot holes/unbelievability in something they find dull is absurd. There are shows I enjoyed but don't find realistic (Hi-Speed Jecy for example).

Kanon has a great atmosphere. My memory doesn't remember all of the details. Some people find comfort in knowing the vague plot. Look at it from a different perspective once all the characters have been developed. And so forth.

But go on only listening to music albums once. I'm sure you';; be a deeper person for it.

I liked the VN a lot, but obviously the anime is a disappointment.

The rewrite VN was controversial, some people liked it but a lot of people were disappointed. A big factor is the different routes were written by different authors, and the tone is pretty inconsistent. Chihaya's route is pretty light, and reads a lot like a battle shounen (I've seen it compared to Unlimited Blade Works a few times), while other routes like Shizuru's are closer to traditional KEY drama. It's different than other KEY works, so there's no guarantee you'll like it if you liked their other VNs, but it's not terrible by any stretch of the imagination. It's just not everyone's thing.
