To continue the discussion last thread about KanColle ditching flash for something else, as someone who works a a software company where they still use Silverlight, changing from one framework to another is like pulling teeth. It's expensive in terms of man-hours and training and if there's one thing corporate overlords hate it's spending money on things that don't directly make money, so upgrading is a tough sell. Even if you have to switch (because the software is literally dying), you're often forced to carry bad design decisions into the new version because nobody is given time to figure out how to do it right.

Now, flash isn't quite as dead as silverlight, but if they're planning on keeping the game going more than another year, they have to be weighing their options for alternatives.

I was literally only doing Taihou LSCs with the hopes of getting Shoukaku off a failed attempt.

Desire sensor seems to be very real.

If KanColle's anything like my company's software, there's multiple problems at work. If all your developers have experierince working in flash and are working on flash games full time, they probably haven't had time to learn anything new. Anyone new you bring in who has experience with the new tools won't have any experience with your games, and that is much harder to teach. It'll be quite an undertaking just to rebuild what they currently have in a new framework and every new feature and page they add to the game makes that more difficult. As for the data, the backend of the game probably won't be affected by ditching flash, but that also means there won't be any chances to correct any mistakes that have built up over the game's lifespan. Making any change to the player data or how its structured is probably something they avoid like the plague as it would need intensive testing to avoid messing up user data, and its obvious their testing team is small if it exists at all. In the end, if they're devoting their time to upgrading the front end, they'll probably end up neglecting the back end while they're working on it unless they have multiple teams working on the game. Do we actually know how many people work on KanColle?

We're talking strictly about sonars.
