Okay so I have the standard fp7 from the US storehouse, and when I go to the arcade the buttons are much more clicky and feel better to press.
Is that the switches or the springs or the same buttons or what
How can I make my controller like that for the least amount of money
>>
>>15424578
Your FP7 probably has Dao buttons instead of Sanwas.

Pressing Sanwas feels like fingering a woman, while Daos feel like fingering a bellybutton.
>>
>>15424660
I'm gay. Is that why I think the DAO buttons feel just fine.
>>
Before you shell out for sanwas make sure you're using Omron switches.
>>
why can't DAO stock the FPS in the US storehouse for the perpetually poor like me
>>
>>15425658
Does the US storehouse send to other countries or US only?

I mean, it could be cheaper than ordering it from China.

>>15429051
around 2012 i'd go to the local arcade, meet up with some friends, and just spend hours taking turns playing itg2 custom songs. we'd all like motivate and encourage each other and i got better in the 1 year that it lasted than i'd ever been before (been playing music games since the first american psx release of ddr)

I've never worked with a DAO controller but I've swapped Sanwa knockoffs for the real thing in multiple fightsticks and it's quite simple. They've got two wire connections and they're designed to snap in to the holes on the controller. From what I hear, you can get the proper arcade buttons cheaper than DAO at other stores.

you're not gonna clear harder charts without a hard pad and for the really hard ones, some kind of bar assembly

Hold start and press the Effect button. I think you can't do it while on beginner options, so if you're not playing with E-Amuse, make sure you've opened the proper options window.

If you have Sudden+ on, it'll keep your green number from the standard high speed settings, and adjust the white number.

Some guy did the ITG thing with Maniax. Made a similar game (might be based on Stepmania? I have no clue about the engine honestly) that you put on a computer with a minimaid and it's constantly getting updating with new and recent Bemani songs.

>>
>>15437781
thank you, looks like I got it working, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "spread"
>>
>>15437839
Rebind up, down, left and right to a s k and l, then play with your index fingers
No worries
>>
>>15437781

Spread limits a player to just spread charts though. Heaven forbid a fast trill comes along on up-right or down-left. You're fucked.

What I do if it's not a goofy fucking spread chart is what I call the quad spread, it probably has an actual name though.

Basically wasd with left two fingers, and up, down left, right with my right two fingers. That way you can do any fast trill with both of your fastest fingers.
>>
>>15437845
right, I rebound them already to xc and <>, thanks!

one more thing if I may - for some reason the theme you've recommended hasn't worked (I probably just downloaded an old version or something), but I don't really care about that as I like the default theme, but what bothers me is when I hit a flawless note, how the "flawless" text repeatedly quickly flashes, can I change that somehow manually like in osu! by deleting the hit graphics, or do I need to overwrite it by some other skin
>>15437863
I'll try your setting too then, thanks!
>>
>>15437863
You can trill fine with index-middle finger, though. What are you talking about?
I've never noticed a difference between 'spread charts' and 'non spread charts', but then again I only ever play pad packs.
Staiain uses 4k spread

Any techniques or tips for getting better at DDR/ITG? Recently got a hard board and I feel so sluggish and slow. I also feel like my mind can process the arrows but my legs can't keep up.

Didn't really know why until I started playing the harder levels. Slapping the fuck out of those buttons thousands of times an hour hurts your hands a lot.
>>
>>15438445
basically practice, yeah. if you're playing really fast stuff you likely need a bar assembly so you can take the burden of standing off your legs and simply work on hitting the arrows. otherwise just try to change the way you stand so you can move your feet around with minimal effort, usually some kind of like hunch is what i end up doing when playing harder stuff no-bar.
>>
alright 6th dan in copula is definitely harder than in pendual fuck

>>15438445

Get a rival. Having someone be about your skill level and becoming slightly better than you is about the greatest motivator you can get.

Half of the reason I like osu is because it's popular enough that people have mapped almost any song you can think of, so I can find things I really enjoy listening to and playing

I'm not part of any other rhythm game communities, but like, do people not usually play them for the music? Is there something wrong with that?

>>
>>15438699

Would you play osu! if it didn't have a combo based scoring system?

Cause drummania's scoring system is very largely combo based and no one shit's on it.

Yeah it still has an "EX score"-like system and the actual score is mostly meaningless like the money score in IIDX but still, it's combo based.
>>
>>15438712
alright lets talk this out

combo based scoring is shit: it encourages you to mash through hard patterns instead of trying to clear them with good accuracy so you dont miss and break the combo

also having HP, OD, AR, be decided by the map maker is stupid

the dev team is stupid and want to add stupid shit without looking at other rhythm games (just look at scorev2 and how it spits in the face of logic)

the game's community is full of stupid third worlders and obnoxious beta weeaboos that love to create drama.

just play stepmania or some shit dude lmao
>>
>>15438728
Half of the songs in Osu are stolen from Bemani titles anyway.

Plenty of us play rhythm games for the music, as the soundtracks are all pretty good, with the exception of maybe Jubeat.

>>15438749
No, because the idea of having non-consistent circle sizes, variable timing windows, variable approach rates, variable healthbar difficulties, etc are all fucking stupid.

I play rhythm games for rhythm and the fun of the patterns, not for mashing 8th and occasional 16th note streams on Z and X.
>>
>>15438163

>>
>>15438751
>>15438756

Ok, I do agree with you guys about the combo thing, but I don't really consider myself a "competitive" player or anything, so the scoring system isn't of utmost importance to me. I play the game because it's fun and because I know I'm guaranteed to always find new music I like, unlike in games with set, included soundtracks where eventually you're gonna get through everything it has to offer.

I also don't understand why all the map customization is a bad thing. Osu! is less of a game itself than it is an engine for user creation, so there's nothing wrong with letting those creators have options. If they do a shitty job mapping, people just won't play the map.
>>
>>15438690
In my humble opinion, Osu is fine but ONLY if you play it casually. It's really simple and easy for beginners that know fuck-all about rhythm games.

The second you take that game seriously, you lose.
>>
>>15438808
> I don't really consider myself a "competitive" player or anything

I'm fine with this. But it's not really of discussion here, since the game isn't Japanese. Also, at least >90% of the people that post here highly dislike Osu.

>>15439130
IIDX has arguably the best soundtrack overall out of all Bemani games though.

Can't speak for Gitadora, haven't played.

On a sidenote, one can argue that SDVX contains the most dogshit songs, but luckily it's saved by a bunch of really good tracks.
>>
>>15439252
>one can argue that SDVX contains the most dogshit songs

I don't understand why people think SDVX has bad music. Is it that some people just don't like touhou remixes or vocaloid songs? I've played nearly every song and I rarely found one I disliked.

Honestly I think pop'n has the biggest proportion of boring songs, especially from the older versions. I agree IIDX has the best soundtrack overall, even the older styles are great.
>>
>>15439295
Plenty of SDVX's soundtrack is hit-or-miss if you're not a fan of vocaloid, which for certain people makes a large portion of the soundtrack relatively "bad". The only songs that are actually really, really awful are the Second Heaven remix and the Red Zone remix. You can also argue that the majority of the Touhou remixes in there are only in there because they were memes at some point or another.

The other half of SDVX's soundtrack is fantastic, but it's not as consistently good as IIDX, which is why I consider it a bit lower on the scale.
>>
>>15439306
>the Red Zone remix
what, the "neoclassical party remix"? it's not that bad

i'd rather play the original song, sure but i wouldn't call it awful

>>15439295
pop'n soundtrack has some really high points like Gradius -full speed-
>>
>>15439306
IIDX has a great soundtrack but a lot of the songs are kinda forgettable with a few that stay in everyones head after the style is over.

SDVX has some shit remixes yes but other than that it has some really good shit, also a lot of the remixes are good as well as lots of 2hu and vocaloid so that becomes entirely opinion based since some people dont like 2hu or vocaloid. Not sure how you can say either of those since the 2 are very fuvcking varied but yeah.

Are you not supposed to use your thumbs when playing Taiko on portables? Most videos of japs clearing stuff on 3DS and Vita have them placing the console on a flat surface and using their index fingers to hit the face buttons. My thumbs can't keep up with the spam on the fastest 10-star songs but I don't know how worth it it'd be to switch over and get used to the awkward index finger dance.

I finally did it! After over two months I severely damaged my rebuilt, solid wood DAO FP7.

Made out of solid 1x3s and MDF, I started cracking some shit after hundreds and hundreds of full power slams right on the keys. Even managed to destroy two of the white key's "plastic shells". Never once though killed an Omron.

Which I find odd because I did kill one with my non-destroyed FP7. I guess it just had too much give to it.

Not too sure but I may or may not have severe anger issues. Who cares, it's all part of IIDX, amirite?

I genuinely can't understand playing a song you've played dozens of times before, taking a quick glance to the right and seeing you're 50, 100, 200 EX from your best play and not instantly becoming explosively angry.

I can understand doing a little worse on a song, just to pass, but to do worse on al regards, it defeats the very point of rhythm games: to constantly become better than you were.

Why the fuck am I not as good as a fucking week ago? What the fuck happened? I'll never bee good at this rate!

that's not the point of rhythm games you fuckin sperg

the point is to hit buttons to some music and have fun
>>
>>15440296

Accepting the swings in your performance is also part of being a good player. Going on tilt is just going to make you do worse anyways. Also, if you're not good, you shouldn't be playing any song dozens of times. You should be playing a wide variety of songs so you develop your ability to hit any sort of pattern.
>>
>>15440464
even if you're a good player you shouldn't really grind out songs over and over. M!tsuba (and I'm sure most other top rankers) advises against doing that since constant replays of the same songs leads to shittier scores and you should switch songs in between plays.
>>
>>15440386
You mean chords?

You just... press them at the same time? Get good at using your peripheral vision. Diva's a very easy rhythm game, even the arcade version.
>>

I don't like using a mouse to click circles. Osu! could be a mediocre game if it was on tablets (no, that piece of shit Osu! stream doesn't count), but it's just no fun at all to me to play on PC.

Also, most beatmaps for it are genuinely godawful. It's a game that relies on user-generated content, and naturally, most of that content is garbage.

Talking about Vita Taiko here, but you can FC everything except Yuugen no Ran with your thumbs.

The only confirmed video of someone FCing Yuugen is wearing mittens and rubbing the buttons with his index fingers, not pressing (looks gay as shit). But all other high tier 10s are FC-able with thumbs (though things like the ending of Calculator might require the analog stick)

As for accuracy there are too few ๅ…จ่‰ฏ videos/discussion to make a judgment whether it's easier to be accurate with indexes or thumbs, but if there's a difference it's probably tiny.

in the vita Im@s x Taiko game there's a meme song with a section that makes no rhythmic sense and made a lot of players annoyed

someone on the taiko wiki discovered that when you line up the 7 measures vertically it reads "IDOL 765P," which is of course 765 Production, the main group of the series

Gameplay doesn't really feel much different from its predecessors. The moving lanes tend to be visually distracting and they don't add much to the gameplay that hasn't already been done before in games such as CHUNITHM.

Songwise, its decent but nothing too special. I feel that many of the songs try too hard to be "artsy" and dramatic (that can be said for all three of Rayark's games as a whole though). No stupid story unlocks this time around (I think), so that's a plus at least.

Good to know it should still be possible to clear most stuff using thumbs. I have like 5 songs on Vita left to get a silver crown on. Already managed to barely survive Xa by (ab)using the sticks.

I don't think I'll ever have a chance to play at the arcade, but I did import a tatacon for the Wii/Wii U games and mod it a while ago. I'm still prett inexperienced and clumsy with them but it's easy to see how there's less of a "wall" in terms of how fast I can physically process inputs compared to buttons.

Considering getting (or making) those wooden drumsticks since the plastic stock ones leave a lot to be desired, but I don't know how much they'd actually help me out and how much is placebo. Do you have any input on those?

I would look into maipachi if you intend on ever reaching a high level. I've never played WiiU taiko so I don't know what the plastic ones are like but maipachi are really light and comfortable and are pretty much essential for being consistent on 10s and high 9s.There's a lot of videos on how to make them.

I have four songs left, if you have five you probably need either Disappearance of Miku or Charlie Dash!! next (since I don't see why you would have five left over if you had no DLC and managed to clear Xa)

If it's Charlie Dash, you should give the index finger style a try. Most of the videos FCing it are people using their indexes, and I did it first with my indexes, though I can now easily pass with my thumbs.

Disappearance of Miku is just a matter of time, you'll probably just wake up one day and find that you can do it (assuming you haven't already)

Let me know if you've cleared pic related, I could use some tips.
>>
>>15441365
The stock plastic ones are really light and not as all as terrible as one would think, but they are plump and clumsy. I'll probably make my own maibachis though, don't feel like paying 50 bucks for having two wooden sticks shipped over here.

Miku, Charlie Dash, Joubutsu, MM and Yuugen are the ones I have left (and Donkama 2000 as well, but I cleared that one by cheating with the pause menu because it's retarded). I'm like 3 or 4 "nodes" away from clearing the first three so it's just a matter of getting consistent and nailing those tricky streams that mix freely between 12th/16th/24th notes.

It's rated a 5.
And it's really hard to nail the 1+5, 3, 3 ten times consecutively. Missing one chord costs you half the gauge in ex hard. Random and R-Random don't make it better.
GUILTY (H) might be even worse, I still can't clear it.

Why even play it on EXH? Or is that the point, it's only hard on EXH?

So after further reconsideration, Hard Clear is not cheating.

In fact I had never even used Hard Clear before and had assume the Gauge used in Dan courses was Hard Clear. It is very much not.

Hard Clear is actually hard.
>>
>>15442520
No shit.

Some people have been playing for so long they forgot you lose a ton of health in Hard mode and it takes a while to get back. It is only "easier" on very few instances.
>>
I really like the look of black keys with white LEDs. Looks ghostly.

No wonder you thought it was cheating, then. The dan course bar is designed to be extremely forgiving.
>>

I just felt like I didn't really deserve 8th Dan.

Gigadelic was seriously easy as shit.

Infinitas looks incredibly mediocre overall, just simple shit like having to select the mission you want to do instead of it automatically completing when you finish a song puts me completely off from the game

I'm already used to that considering the country I live but this must be extremely hurtful for americans who probably assume they're the main market of the entire planet and all companies should pander to them.

I remember I met some old japanese ladies as a small kid and they really liked me (I poorly sang a song from that N64 Goemon game), going "Oh you should come to Japan! Everyone will like you, you look japanese!"

I don't know what was going on in their heads since I don't look asian at all, but it's funny how their idea of a compliment is "You look/sound like us!".
>>
>>15445493
Yeah, it's actually kinda sad. It's even worse than America's blind patriotism.

I once got told in Sapporo to literally just leave Japan because I'm not welcome there.
>>
>>15445509

I decided if I ever went to Japan, I'd use extremely polite language. Masu and mashite on every verb, maybe watashi if I'm meeting someone new, who knows.
Just be really nice.

But the second some shit tries to tell me off like that, to just go away, I will very rudely tell them to fuck off and die.

Never fails to make me sad.

I still play the games and work on learning the language (long story short, not much better to do while I'm on the job) and I still think I'd want to visit the country once.

But I know this will happen. I know untold others think this way even if they don't make it public. I wouldn't expect otherwise. But it still makes me sad.
