Chapters 30-32:
Kasuya's unit fights Maeda and his skeleton army.
After comparing the tower of ether coming from Honnouji with the one at Mikawa, Class Plum concludes Motonobu may have blown up Mikawa to hide the fact that he was using a ton of ether to transfer something through the ley lines.
With help from Shakespeare, they fully decode Carlos I's message, but still aren't entirely sure what it means.

And a random fact: The black algae creatures are the future past version of Slavs.

>>15356042
Doesn't do us much good if no one knows the thread is here.
>>
>>15357162
Slavs or slaves? If it is slavs, is there some sort of racist connotation there I'm unaware of? I don't see the relation at all

I hate it here. I hope things go back to normal soon
>>
>>15357300
Slavs were commonly used as slaves at that time in history (it's where the word slave comes from), so the algae creatures take on that role since they physically need to do what's considered "slave work" to live.
>>
>>15357327
I think what he's trying to ask is do they squat?[\spoiler]
>>
>>15357327
Oh cool. I do so love this series since I actually learn bits of history from it like that.
>>
>>15357341

>using a ton of ether to transfer something through the ley lines

Wonder if it has anything to do with the Academy of Nowhere.
>>
Why is this on /jp/ now? Would have missed it, just saw the moved thread in the archive by chance. At least we can survive euronight now.

on a side note, got an acrylic print of the 9-B cover. Should arrive tomorrow. I hope it looks good.

Did we ever get a confirmed top speed of the Musashi apart from the 200(?) knots in gravitational cruising on the way to England?
>>
>>15361222
Not that Wikipedia is a valid source, but it does say that's where the word comes from. Where do you say it originates?
>>
>>15362982
>Wikipedia
You must be joking.

Slavs were calling themselves that long before they even got mentioned in anglo literature. Not to mention slave markets weren`t even using english in the first place until America became the main customer.
>>
>>15361942
Encyclopedia is always the answer. Usual cruise was somewhere around 15 knots.
>>
>>15364155
Well yes, but I meant top speed when not giving a fuck about fuel consumption, not regular cruising. Like when they did the backflip or catapulted the ship across MHRR.

Turned out pretty well. Couldn't really take a proper picture though, the acrylic reflects ungodly amounts of light.
>>
>>15364152
Do you not know how etymologies work?

The English goes back to French which goes back to Latin which is where Slav was used to mean slave:
http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=slave
>late 13c., "person who is the chattel or property of another," from Old French esclave (13c.), from Medieval Latin Sclavus "slave" (source also of Italian schiavo, French esclave, Spanish esclavo), originally "Slav" (see Slav); so used in this secondary sense because of the many Slavs sold into slavery by conquering peoples.
>>
>>15365455
>The Slavic autonym is reconstructed in Proto-Slavic as *Slověninъ, plural *Slověne. The oldest documents written in Old Church Slavonic and dating from the 9th century attest the autonym as Slověne (Словѣне). The oldest mention of the Slavic ethnonym is the 6th century AD Procopius, writing in Byzantine Greek – Sklaboi (Σκλάβοι), Sklabēnoi (Σκλαβηνοί), Sklauenoi (Σκλαυηνοί), Sthlabenoi (Σθλαβηνοί), or Sklabinoi (Σκλαβῖνοι), while his contemporary Jordanes refers to the Sclaveni in Latin

>The Slavic autonym *Slověninъ is usually considered a derivation from slovo ("word"), originally denoting "people who speak (the same language)," i.e. people who understand each other, in contrast to the Slavic word denoting "foreign people" – němci, meaning "silent, mute people" (from Slavic *němъ – "mute, mumbling").

>The word slovo ("word") and the related slava ("fame") and slukh ("hearing") originate from the Proto-Indo-European root *ḱlew- ("be spoken of, fame"), cognate with Ancient Greek κλῆς (klês - "famous"), whence the name Pericles, and Latin clueo ("be called"), and English loud.
>>
>>15365570
Your point?
The etymology of the word Slav is irrelevant to whether the word slave was derived from it.
>>
>>15364651
Fuck me that's sexy. Where did you get it from?

She was running away from dolls
>She quickly slipped below the next table and launched herself into the passageway by the back wall.

But she heard a certain sound ahead of her.

Tonbo Spare’s blade had stabbed into the back wall. The impact caused her to spin around by the wall.

“Phew.”

She took a breath as she placed her curled-up body in a crouching pose and landed facing the entrance. She was below the counter seats by the back wall. To her right, Tonbo Spare was stabbed into the wall near the floor.

>Muneshige’s answer was frank.

>“I’m not really sure.”

>“Not even someone on your level can tell?” Gin tilted her head. “When we were given Lype Katathlipse, no one knew how to use it and it had no instruction manual or warranty, yet you smiled, said ‘Like this maybe?’, and tore down the secondary school building. At the time, I was impressed by your carefree manliness.”

Are you saying I can have her!? …You want me to wait!? Mary is more important, but you can’t let me have her!? Are you a monster!? Or are you taking your faith too lightly!? As divine punishment, I’ll send you a divine mail with all the ending dialogue copied into it! What? I just have to choose ‘yes’ for all the choices with that company’s games!? You fool! I’ve been stuck in an infinite loop of ‘Let’s become one → Yes → It would be a shame to do that now!’ What!? Calm down and choose ‘no’ to continue!? Surely you aren’t suggesting I choose to reject a messenger of god… What? How did I get this far with that attitude? You think I should be playing games rated ‘priests only’ instead of ‘adults only’? Hmph, the only option left is to check the divine net!”

Yeah, shipping is what's keeping me from ordering them. That and not being able to read them. If it was cheaper to get, I'd definitely buy them just to have the pretty pictures in hand while reading js06's translations.

>OnC
>Leviathan is the key to open the possibilities to the entire world
>EDGE is literally the age of the gods
>All the races fucked up all the hard work and entered into a huge war
>Lost the technology and knowledge that allows them to reach the Heavens (exo-planets and shit)
>Survivors back to earth
>Genesis Era and Horizon
>Top gear against Low Gear all over again to regain what they lost
>Logismoi Oplo is the key to use the Leviathan again and reach the power to the next step on evolution
>They just managed to do what Sayama and Co, did long ago and save the world
>OBSTACLE
>the next stage to achieve the Heaven again
>Fucked up until they reach CITY
>CITY = Age of Gods?

Kawakami himself loves shmups, though. He'd approve, I think. There's even a fangame shmup based on his work.
I think the same kind of autism needed to enjoy Kawakami's works is the same kind you need to really get deep into Touhou, not that I've done so myself.
>>
>>15355649
I want to get into this stuff (Primarily for Honda Futayo who looks really cute in the pictures I've seen)

Should I just read the Horizon LN first? or is the anime a worthy adaptation. I haven't felt like reading it up until now because while I love the art and most the character designs, it seems like there's so many of them that ones you like wouldn't get the screen time you want them to get.
>>
>>15396636
You could start wherever you want basically. The anime is a good adaptation, but it's likely that you'll be confused at the beginning. I'd suggest watching the anime first, coming back here if you have any questions and then reading the LN starting at 1-A. You could theoretically skip to 3-A after watching both seasons, but you'll miss out on some stuff.
>>
I tried to get into Kawakami's work, but I just can't stand his style. There's way too much technobabble for my taste. Mind you, others might find this right up their alley. I'm just not the type to appreciate lengthy infodumpings on how magic works and so on. I think it actually detracts from the story, specially when this explanations come in the middle of an action sequence.
>>
>>15396832
I would say that Kawakami tries to get that outside the fights actually, or at least compared to other LNs like Index or Mahouka. When Kawakami gives infodumps is during negotiations or history related issues.

The more infodumpy fight in Horizon is the very first one in 1-A, most of them in later volumes lack any kind of big infodump and sometimes the weapons only get two lines about what they do, usually said by a character instead that a narration. The part were Kawakami's fights are hard to some people is how detailed they are, to the point he explains point by point everything that is going on so some people can find it a bit extreme.
>>
>>15396832
The fights are almost never like that. For example Owari no Chronicle lacks lenghty infodumps of any kind and they are usually spiced in the middle of an actual conversation or joke scene. Fights can get tiring because of the detail, not because the infodumps thrown there,
>>
>>15396938
Good to know I`m not the only one getting confused sometimes. Man, that fight of Thunder Fellow VS Black Sun was awesome as fuck, but sometimes my brain just tilted while I tried to make my imagination keep up with everything that was going on.
>>
>>15396938
>>15396941
Infodumping, details, technobabble. Call it however you want, point it's pretty fucking distracting, to me at least.
>>
>>15396965
The point is that those details are the fight itself and not something that distract you from it. As I said, the problem is that talking abut each one of the blows and movements can be a bit tiring, but it's not a halt in the action to throw an tangentially related explanation like most japanese young fiction does.
>>
Speaking of Kawakami fights, I still have no idea what happened in Narumi vs Urguiaga between after they both got into the air and when Narumi formed the sword cage.

Serious question, is there some in-story reason all the girls have retarded hair and breasts?
Is it like that anime where some ninja chick could steal other women's titmass, but they win hair and tits after battles? Every time I see something from this, I can't help think how ridiculous it looks, but everything else looks ridiculous too so I figure there might be some lore reason, like they store mana in their tits or something. I think there was an anime like that too.

How many of the major characters have huge tits and hair? How many of them have normal sized tits and hair(read: are not flat, nor tomboys either.)? It doesn't matter if everyone not important doesn't have ridiculous designs.

Also why do you seem angry about it?

>No, not everybody has a huge rack, even on Musashi.
On what?

>we had our share of shitposters trying to derail threads exactly this way.
This is literally the first thread I've seen about this series on /jp/.
Besides that, why does it derail a thread to talk about their boobs? I don't get it. Most of the images are about their boobs.

>>15420296
Stop what? asking questions? I've had this anime for a long while but never got around to watching it. The character designs just kind of bother me. If there's more normal looking people than weird ones, it won't bother me as much, but I have a low tolerance for excessive character designs. I'm tired of "everyone must be hyper busty or loli" worlds too.

They don't spend an excessive amount of time talking about boobs and boring shit like that, do they? I saw cool mecha battles and stuff that interested me, but they do spend a lot of time fighting vs fucking around and fanservice right? It looks like it's genuinely interesting but I'm still on the fence about just deleting it and freeing up some space.
>>
>>15420455
It's hard to say if you would like it. Watch at least the first four episodes, better if you watch five or six.
Breasts in the anime have been generally enlarged over the original LN illustrations.
>>
>>15420483
Why so many? That's like half a season. (btw there are only the two seasons right? No ovas or anything?)

What little I know about it seems like I would like it, but it would be ruined if it was under excessive fanservice is all. As long as it doesn't start off strong and then spend the whole middle part as school harem titty yuri hijinx or something, I'll be fine with it.

Because the first three episodes serve to set up the world, backstory and characters and the actual plot doesn't really start until ep4/5. Also yes, there are 2 seasons, 26 episodes total.

I'm really not sure what your definition of 'excessive fanservice' is if some characters having tits already seems to annoy you that much. Please elaborate on that.
>>
>>15420525
Because the first three episodes are mostly setting up the huge setting before it starts getting into the main plot for the first arc.

>I'm really not sure what your definition of 'excessive fanservice' is if some characters having tits already seems to annoy you that much. Please elaborate on that.
The latter seasons of Dog Days and Zero no Tsukaima vs the first seasons of them. Monogatari is a good example of something I refuse to bother with at all because of excessive fanservice scenes.

>some characters having tits already seems to annoy you that much.
It's not that "some characters have tits", it's "some of these characters have ridiculous porportions like they're out of the late 90s." It sort of gives the impression it's of a low quality. I don't mind it in, say, Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka, because it's silly, but a work that wants to be taken seriously but the main posted characters look like they're from one of those trashy shows by the Kanokon/Ladies vs Butlers guy or something is kind of a bad impression. As long as they care more about the plot/action than the girls' tits, I'm fine. It goes the other way too, btw: a show entirely about flat chested girls is most likely just yuritrash that I'll ignore.

>>15420583
Nipples don't make something fanservice. If the bath scene isn't them talking about important things, but just rubbing each other and splashing water around, that's fanservice.

What's a "dudebro" posting style?

I (the one asking questions) pretty much post only here nowadays, but I was around before even /jp/ existed, since like 2004, when it was still okay to say "lol" and stuff.

You actually do have some valid reason for being suspicious of this show. I too was wary of it because of the fanservice and the stigma of being a LN adaptation, but I'm really glad that I stayed for the ride and now I vibrate in happiness every time there's more Kawakami novels. Don't worry, the fanservice is not the focus, but the banter between the characters, the fights, the debates, the twists of history recreation, and of course the jokes are makes this novel/anime so interesting.

I'm at episode 4 of the first season and i have a dumb question about the setting in Horizon.

Why are they staying on ships when the soil seems fertile ? They said that they had to live on ships because the land is hostile so i thought that the earth was like a sand desert or something but it's all green with a lot of trees.
Is there people on the ground or all humans live on moving city/country ship ?
>>

They're staying on the airship because the Far East lost the war and so, under provisional rule, they're not allowed any land except the Musashi and some settlements around the country. The other countries are on the ground.

I'm on episode 6, are all these names and characters supposed to mean anything to me? Feel like I'm reading an alternative history textbook with made up names.
>>
>>15423979
The current situation is that the world history and sengoku era history of Japan are being run at the same time on the same land so world countries are fused with Sengoku clans for the history recreation. So Spain is Spain and the Oouchi and Ootomo clans, Italy is Italy and the Aki clan and Musashi represents all of Japan on the world stage and the Matsudaira clan in internal Japan history.

Most of the names are actual historical figures though they may not have all existed at exactly the times the series has them appearing since the on record year is 1648 and some of the names that appear were dead by 1600 in the original timeline.

Looking up the Thirty years war and Sengoku history should help a bit.

Does the Horizon LN have better pacing and dialog than the anime? Because the anime was very "generic" and left me weirdly unsatisfied, I found myself drifting off in thought and skipping scenes.
>>
>>15425712
It flows better, it has more jokes and longer conversations. I still would never call the anime "generic" as is as far as it you can get from that word.
>>
>>15425712
Well, it's basically the same dialogue except less condensed and with more conversations that weren't relevant to the plot enough to adapt them. If you actually got bored at times watching it the LN probably not for you. Also I'm not sure where you're getting the 'generic' feeling from.
>>
>>15425712
How far are you now?
>>
>>15425724
By generic I mean It was your typical magical academy where a retard mc saves the girl with the power of friendship and no one cool besides Honda and his robot wife dies. The dialog between Horizon and Toori as he was trying to save her was reaching Ryukishi07's level of bad cyclical repeating dialog.

There were good scenes, I did like the dialog between Futayo and Toori during the debate and how Toori takes her side of the debate, I thought that was really cool. Anything with Kimi was good. Just some scenes tended to drag on forever and not mean anything unless you knew everything about the universe. Some scenes I could not keep my eyes off, and some scenes I was rolling my eyes hoping for it to be over only to get 5 more minutes of the same shit.

As far as generic storylines go the first book's story is the closest the series as a whole gets. The second season ramps up, but the anime really only covers the first two thirds of the introduction arc that make up the entire first 3 volumes. Most of the time past what you just watched the fact that they are students in a school is irrelevant.
>>
>>15425828
>Most of the time past what you just watched the fact that they are students in a school is irrelevant.

I don't really care, I'm not the kind that shit on an Academy setting, I think it was done right in this case at any rate for the reasons you stated. It's a good setting to show that everyone knows each other and that they have deep bonds of friendship. It's just they made a big deal about how war would lead to death suffering of many people and yet everyone that died, died before the war. I can only count 3 characters and bunch of nameless robots that died. It felt like everyone on Musashi Ariadust Academy's side had plot armor so none of the fights were ever really exciting. Even when Honda lost her fight she came back and won. Then the last attack with one of the deadly sins only worked because Horizon finally was able to feel? The ending really threw me off.
>>
>>15425778
It would be generic if the MC pretended to be weak but is OP as fuck, and encounters redheaded tsundere bitch while naked, and there's a tournament in the school, and they end up together, and his little sister(but not really) is also there, and she's in love with him.

>The dialog between Horizon and Toori as he was trying to save her was reaching Ryukishi07's level of bad cyclical repeating dialog.
I think it was justified in that he was "debating" against a robot. Repetition is taken for granted and it paints how Horizon was trying to go with her "I'm an automaton so I have perfect judgment" stance.
