Anyway, there's just no indication in canon how her son died. Only that Houyi killed him.

Junko's son's death being related to the sun, whether it's falling on him or being a sun himself (another theory) was just a mix up between Junko and Hecatia's reasons for hating Chang'e and Junko being mixed up with another Chinese character (Xihe) before Junko's myth origin was discovered.
