Reimu in Japan, would just look like a regular miko.
Rumia, providing she isn't in her dark sphere.
Meiling in mid 1900's China.
Yukari, in the 19th century.
Reisen, with a hat to hide her ears.
Yuuka in the early 1900 French Countryside.
Murasa and Chiyuri, in a port.
Koishi, canonically.
Mamizou, canonically.
Sagume, in Paris, if she manages to hide her wing.
Junko, Akyuu, maybe Kaguya in China or Japan during a festival.
Sakuya, Yumeko and Ruukoto in Europe during the Renaissance.
Yuki, Rika, Rikako, Renko, the Watatsuki sisters.

No, it's a place in Japan, you just can't get there from here. The barrier is non-Euclidean magic bullshit, but Gensoukyou itself is just an ordinary location on Earth.
>>
>>15309591
This. It's a physical location "deep in the mountains" surrounded by a metaphysical boundary which prevents sentient creatures from passing. Inanimate objects, as well as some animals, are perfectly capable of passing. A human would find themselves presumably experiencing the same thing as Marisa in >>15309302

The question is, unless literally nobody has encountered Gensokyo's barrier from the outside, why hasn't anybody attempted to investigate this anomaly?
>>
>>15310127
Think about the geometry, such as it is. From the inside trying to go out, there's nowhere to go, so you end up with the weird looping thing and ending up where you started. But from the outside, if you would go into the barrier, you instead just go around. Like, imagine cutting a hole out of a sheet, then stitching it back together. There appears to be a continuous surface, even though an area is actually missing.

As for how GPS and surveying equipment and whatever else can't detect any inconsistencies, well, it's magic, ain't gotta explain shit.

>>15310208
Wouldn't the behavior outside be just like the barrier wasn't there? I see it working like a filter, if something meets the requirements when passing through it, it'll be sent to gensokyo, if not it'd pass like nothing was there
>>
>>15310987
>>15311363

Mamizou - It's thought that Nue left and retrieved her using the Gensokyo Occult Ball, which is in Mamizou's possession come ULiL.

Sumireko - Broke through with the collected Occult Balls after using an astral form to implant them while she slept. Got booted out when sent back through with the balls (IIRC).

Not supposed to be in Gensokyo. Entering while she sleeps actually causes a doppelganger to split off in the form of the lost dreams she should be having while she's in Gensokyo.

Moriya Shrine, Scarlet Devil Mansion - Unknown how they moved in all that they did.

However, at least in the SDM's case, it's thought that they're still able to travel to the outside somehow, as evidenced in the chupacabra chapter as it's wondered how they're still able to get their hands on all those outside world things.

Hecatia - Being the ruler of all Hells, her domain supercedes Gensokyo. She must have gotten her modern clothes from somewhere, after all.

Touhou's who have once or can still travel outside include:

Nue and Mamizou (I think they still have the Gensokyo ball)

Sumireko (obviously)

the SDM (again, chupacabra chapter)

Yukari

A few during ULiL (Kasen, Mamizou, Marisa, Ichirin and a couple others)

Rinnosuke (once in CoLA by accident).

Also random youkai on hunting quests, if the passage in PMiSS still holds up.
>>
>>15311930
And then there's this piece of shit and her cunty sisters, who just strolled down to Gensokyo like it was nothing.
>>
>>15311930
I wonder if that hole that appeared in fairies story is already closed.
Being in muenzuka makes easier to cross the barrier due to the 3 worlds joint, I wonder if going to the correspondent place in outside should make easier to enter as well

Actually, by definition (and Yukari's powers), it's NOT real. Gensokyo is a realm of "fantasy," on the opposite end of "reality." It can't be real, because that's not how it works.

In other words, Gensokyo exists as a "fantastical" place and you can do nothing about it.

>>15309591
What does " non-Euclidean " mean?
>>
>>15337027
It's a physical location given over to the realm of fantasy. Only creatures that have passed into fantasy can enter it (with some exceptions). It's not real in the sense that it houses creatures and places explicitly considered fantasy, but it's a physical location, not an alternate or pocket dimension. Read PMiSS.
>>
[bullshit time] Gensokyo is real. It's mathematic. Since it's the place where unreal / Fantasy / dream things go, Gensokyo exists because of those things's inexistence. Hakurei Border is just the boundary between dreams and reality, so you cross it each time you're dreaming / daydreaming. Touhou's Gensokyo is theoricaly Maribel's, since she visit it in her phantasms. That's what she ressembles Yukari. Yukari is her projection in her own world, like Sumireko is the projection of Renko, the friend she share her dreams with, with Sumireko able to enter the realm.

I can hardly believe something like this place exists. It's like it's straight out of a fantasy story. Has this been depicted in media before?

I don't know if it would be amazing or hirrible to live there.
It's close enough to Tokyo, but the only way to go there and back is by a ship that doesn't often run, or helicopter which costs a fortune.
There are only 160 residence as well, and no restaurants whatsoever. Only inns for tourists, what would you even do for work there?

I don't think it's particularly uncommon, actually. I'm pretty sure only scientists live there to study, like they do at the South Pole.
