Probably the last time I'll be posting this: Please if you're going to NYC, sign up for the mailing list at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/miku-exponyc2016/join and briefly explain your plans for the day.

Also, on that note, how many people are going to the Digital Stars event. I'm kinda concerned about the fact that it's all the way in Brooklyn, since that might really complicate the logistics.

Get up on line culture. Traveled with a small group to Dallas, but you'll find solo people more than willing to talk to, connect with, and hey, you find yourself a spot holder if you have to run to the bathroom or whatever else. And if its your first show, its gonna be so amazing you wont remember it. More of in the moment type thing. Line up at a decent time.

Basically

>told parents I was going to NYC
>specifically said it was for a concert
>bought tickets for show and train ride months ago
>asked my mother if she wanted to go with me, said no
>said she'd drop me off at the train station and pick me up when I get back
>this week she says she can't drop me off, so I'll have to leave my car at a parking garage
>father gets annoyed and asks why I wouldn't take my mother with me (why would she even want to go?)
>both get annoyed that I picked the train station closest to where we live instead of the second option (has a better parking area but is an hour drive away) and are trying to get me to cancel the tickets to switch over to the other train station that I've never been to

How the hell can I even find available train tickets within two days of memorial day weekend? When I bought mine a month ago they were already almost sold out. I could just have them pick up my car but then they're going to act like I'm making them do everything for me so I can run off for two days.
>>
>>15294818
Oh yeah I just remembered. I chose the station that has a train that stops in Penn, whereas the other one only goes to Grand Central.
>>
>>15294818

Oy sorry to hear that, family... Love em but they can be a pain in the ass. Hopefully this will blow over or resolve itself soon.
>>

>Oh yeah I just remembered. I chose the station that has a train that stops in Penn, whereas the other one only goes to Grand Central.

Penn is great, two blocks and you're at the Hammerstein.
>>
>>15294840
That's why I picked it, the hotel I have a reservation at is pretty close to the area too. I just checked the site for the other train station and they do have a stop at Penn but the tickets cost even more than what I've already paid.
>>
>>15294863

Cool, well like I said hope the parents issue blows over and you make it over here without issues. Take care!

Shit, I may need to buy them now myself. Also in NJ, if that's where you're from

>NJT tickets are always undated, because they don't reserve a particular seat. They're just like bus passes.
Good to know. I don't go to the city nearly as much as I'd like.

>By the way, which showing are you going to?

Afternoon show. I'll be in the city before 9, and depending on the size of the line at that point I'll either line up immediately or go and get some coffee first.

I'm really hoping the Merch stand is open before the show, so that I can get what I need and feel relaxed the rest of the time without worrying that I'll miss out on some merch.

>>15295920
>What do you think the chances of another NA tour happening next year?
It's pretty up in the air. Some anons have theorized that there's a good chance we can get a yearly thing going on; a number of the shows this year have sold out, and the concert is doing very, very well in general. Crypton might see this as their chance to really bring Miku over.

Others are not as optimistic
>>
>Hand in hand isn't on the set list
>>
ALL THIS TALK ABOUT THE CONCERT AND NO MENTION OF ANAMANAGUCHI?!

They were a great complement to Miku and friends and their opening was hype.
>>
>>15295920
I'd be surprised. My money would be on 2018. I think they'll drop Chicago and do a double show in a bigger venue in Dallas, since they clearly weren't prepared for the TX turnout this year.

I really hope they don't drop Chicago. Wasn't sold out but pretty much the whole main floor was full and balcony looked crowded (from what I could tell, any anons that were up there can back me up?)
Also merch line was wrapped around two or three hallways and two flights of stairs. I guess it would just be a matter of logistics because the show definitely made some cash either way.
>>
>Want to look up the setlist because there are still so many popular Miku (and co.) songs I don't know that they might play
>Also want to be surprised at the show

I'll be torn until Saturday.
>>
>>15296088
At least listen to a few of them. It's nice to be able to recognize a song at a concert and hear how different it sounds.
I just posted a playlist with most of the songs, although certain shows have slightly different setlists.
>>
>>15296109
>. It's nice to be able to recognize a song at a concert and hear how different it sounds.
That was more or less the justification I was going to use.

I guess I'll just listen to a few of the ones I don't know, and not in any order, so that the show is still fresh and whatnot.
>>

>>
>>15296165
I went to Houston, smallish crowd but still lots of people. They did kind of announce it late.
>>
>>15296165
Dallas was allegedly 4300 people, but it sold out so fast after tickets went up, that they had to add Houston onto the tour later, and that was probably only 1500 or 2000 or so.

I'm not sure if I'm going. It's literally in the opposite direction of the venue from where I'm coming in, which basically means two equal-length subway trips. It'll probably depend on what time I get into the city.

I intend to be there early enough to provide at least some last-minute help to the anons going to the afternoon show, but I'm going to the evening one. IMHO, that's the only real way to enjoy a concert in the city. The afternoon concerts feel like matinees stocked with little kids, especially given an act as relatively wholesome as Miku.

Not to fill the thread with more complaining and helicopter parenting but I was able to change my ticket to an afternoon train at 3:15. I kind of like this more because I'll have a ride to the station and I'll be able to sleep in after working tomorrow night.

Now I'm just not sure what time I'll be able to get in line because the train gets to NYC at 6pm. But I also have VIP so maybe it won't be too bad.

I spent $500 at my local MikuExpo, 500 is nothing when you have a job and good savings. (And good budgeting skills).

Getting time off from work is much harder than trying to scrape up several hundred dollars (or even 2-3k if necessary) for any Miku event.
>>
>>15298088
$500 on merch? The only merch I'll probably get is the full graphic t-shirt. Everything else is western looking. Wish they had more of a selection.

$500 isn't much but it totally depends on what you're spending it on. $500 isn't much if you're buying a new washer and dryer, or replacing your transmission.
$500 is a lot to fly half way across the country to listen to a band play some songs you already have on your phone, or at least the justification would be much harder to make.

Yeah, it's just pretty stupid how much it can be improved with just a little more effort. It's like none of these artists have any pride in their work.

>>15301710
I think this will be the case since they had overstock for SF and LA that they sold in Dallas but none from Seattle.
>>
>>15301799
I think it's more that they have absolutely no respect for who Miku is, so they depict her as something she's not. Only an artist who's actually studied the Japanese style of drawing can really be qualified for this.

Actually I think its fine that artists in general depict miku with their own style. But because this is an official representation for fans with certain expectations, you should stick to a more generally agreed on style. This isn't your deviantart page. Second, a lot of the designs have been very very simplistic or lazily done. One was caught plagiarizing c'mon. And my final minor gripe is that most have nothing to do with their city. It's like they didn't even read the prompt. Seattle really had it all.

I bought the Chicago poster because I traveled a long way to see the Expo again and wanted some memento specific to the Chicago stop of the tour. I would have preferred a prettier, more Anime-styled Miku, so I hope my purchase doesn't give the wrong impression.
>>
I feel like Crypton got punished for trying to do a good thing for the fans with the posters. I mean, the simplest thing would have been to take submissions and just pick one for the poster, but they went out of their way to commission original illustrations make something fresh.

However, they got screwed by artists who didn't take Miku or their commissions seriously.
>>
>>15302016
I hope they do posters again next time around, because I genuinely like the idea of it.

But you're right, everyone has been shitting on the designs because they're so bad.
>>
>>15302016
They deserve to be punished for being dumb. It's obvious looking at this garbage that it wouldn't be well received. Just because it's North America doesn't mean everything has to be westernized. We're weeaboos, for crying out loud. We're going to Miku Expo because we want to see our kawaii anime waifu desu. The shirt was on point, at least. I hope they analyze the data and see how the white graphic shirt outsold all the other merch combined like 10:1 and make the stuff next year more otacool.
>>
>>15302016
>>15302080
This. Miku and the Vocaloids in extension are all about fan based work and collaboration. It's in the spirit to have fans make the posters.
But it's just been a real shit show, save for like 2 of the posters. I get that they want Miku to have more Western appeal, but doesn't everyone like her because of her quirky Asian influence?

My sister is even interested in seeing the show now once I described what Vocaloid was all about, and she's normal as hell. She wants to see that slice of Japan.

Anyways, is anyone at Barnes and Noble for the event in NYC? I just got here super late, is it already over?? There's 4 Japanese guys in the front of the store super decked out in Miku attire but they don't know any English and my Japanese is embarrassingly bad.

Hello. I was unable to post on my phone since I have IP problems with the 4G chip they gave me.
Yesterday night was awesome and HachioujiP is such a cutie. Got his Desktop Princess cd. Digital stars was pretty good, the right atmosphere as in no hard druggies, lively, nice people and good song selection, even though 2 of the DJ didn't play Vocaloid music all that much, but at least it was OK music and not normie shit.

Hope to see some people today. I will have some of yesterday's uchiwa fans as they gave away the rest in bulk amounts.

Will be wearing the omocat miku shirt and have a Zola project accessorized phone.

Going to the night show but will be still around early.
>>
>>15303729
>Holy shit hachioji was so good tonight.

Hachiouji as expected fucking KILLED IT.

The host was great. Circus-p kept the party bouncing. Maxo... Had interesting tunes but horrible to dance to if even. Lindsey brought the party back to life. Then of course Hachioji P BROUGHT. THE. MOTHERFUCKING. HOUSE. DOWN. I didn't stop dancing to his set, fucking great as expected from Hachioji.

Them having an arbitrary rule is argubly less 'bad' than making a mess on the ground, if we are messuring badness by how much harm it causes to people or property. You could possibly cause water damage, where as they might cause you the pain of quickly drinking some water, along with the pain of being tolerable human for five minutes. You are l i t e r a l l y a warrior for 'social justice', jumping through mental hoops to paint decent people as oppressors. The new york Kinokuniya Book store did not receive the Miku Bags in time. Everyone was upset since they are arriving next week.
So I made inquiries and the manager told me to give them a call next week. He'll sell them to people via phone since they can't put it on their online store.

Here is their business card.

Just got out of my first show. Pretty great.

By far, the best playlist I have heard from a Miku concert.

I wish they would have had one more Rin song. I also wished they would have played Supercells' Melt, but I didn't have my hopes up desu. Good show, nonetheless. Even with General Admission tickets, I got relatively close to the stage.

Can't wait for the next concert.

I hope I can get those shirts offline. I didn't have time to stand in line after the show ended.

You're never to old to enjoy concerts. Miku is an experience. You'll always have jumpers and cramp paces on the floor seats. Try a balcony seat next time.
>>
Was it odd that Kaito and Meiko had two of the best sounding sets during the show? Usually I can't stand them but they were definitely highlights tonight.
>>
>>15308837
I wouldn't recommend a balcony unless you enjoy being blinded the whole show. I LITERALLY couldn't see meiko at all because every stage light was on and pointing directly into my eyes. This is on top of being too far away to really be able to enjoy the projection.
>>
>>15308822
I agree. It was hard to enjoy myself on the floor. Save for for a while and go to a show in Japan. It's is uncomparably better.

But instead, viewing the Bluray means that you can see Miku crispy clean, up close and see all the behind the scene stuff any time you want.

>>
>>15308951
It's normal. Like being in the sun all day and then walking into a dark room. Your ears, like your eyes, naturally adjust themselves to best suit the environment you're in. They go into a sort of protection-mode when you're in a loud area for a long time, and it wears off within a few hours or a day. It's long-term exposure to noise (or any exposure to incredibly loud, high frequency noises) that damage hearing, a concert won't do much.
>>
I saw the 2016 Miku Expo in two locations (not New York) and it was incredible — definitely not the sort of experience you can stamp onto a Bluray.

You mean Anamanaguchi? If it was like the ones I went to, they only played for around 30 minutes as an opener. If they weren't there, you probably would just get a shorter concert, not more Miku. 2 hours is already a long time for Miku's band to play.

I'm going to buy assigned seats from now. Since I'm in LA that means I won't get VIP stuff but w/e.

Assigned seats mean no standing in VIP line 4 hours before the venue*, no need to worry about having someone tall in front, etc. I'd be able to chill with mikufags till 1 hour before the concert.

* I feel like people start lining up earlier and earlier each year as they try to secure the best front rows.
>>
I'm glad you guy didn't have that much fun since I opted out of this one, but these complaints sound like things people who have never been to an EDM show before would say.

I was in the semi-front with the other VIP's. I don't know how everyone is complaining about the sound. It was perfectly fine to me. The only problem I had was that there were several dickheads in front of me who needed to record every song, the entire time

After buying assigned seats, I want to get a floor spot next time, cause it's pretty damn far and sitting behind someone on the same elevation is pretty bad.

Is it the same issues with the floor with all of the blocking?
>>
>>15310157
It was pretty bad desu. I am used to standing but I guess I was more self aware of standing due to many pauses between songs and just randomly intermissions that last for like a minute or so. My feet hurt only a little. Also there are problems. Some people may be taller than you, Some instances like >>15310031 will happen. There are people who film the entire thing for reasons unknown. Though this is my first concert, I've followed the EDM scene for some time now. Also, I knew precisely it was going to be that loud, because I've gone to parties and dances before.

>>15310193
>going with assigned seating
I feel that kinda defeats the whole aspect of attending a concert like this. It's not an opera. The POINT is to be there dancing to music so blaringly loud that the bass shake your bones. You can listen to Miku literally any time, and unless you're just going because you want the concert merchandise, the only reason to blow cash to physically be there for a VR singer, is to have a good time, to be among that great swirling mass of energy down there on the floor. The assigned seating is for old folks and the chronically fun-challenged, IMHO.

>>15310031
If they were being dickheads, I would have had no compunction mentioning them to security.
>>
>>15310415
I mean its hard to report them to security when it's okay to film and I'm just a 5'9 manlet.1 guy was about 6'5 and he held his hands up high filimg every time. He was some 40 year old man who kept trying to be in group conversations even though he came by himself

>>
>>15310738
>>15310756
They said pictures, not video of the whole concert. Short clips are fine because of fair use, but filming the whole concert is an obvious no-no.
>>
I agree with a few of the people saying it was too loud, it was hard to hear some of the vocals at times, but it was still discernable. I've been to plenty of concerts before and it wasn't deafening, just hard to pick up certain parts of the songs. I think the afternoon showing was easier to hear.

Also my sister and her hub loved it, they were totally enthralled by it and just the togetherness of the crowd and community. This was their first exposure to anything weeb, and liked the cosplayers. By the end of the show they were cheering and waving glowsticks. They liked how cute everything was too. Normies like Miku too apparently.

One of the staff members actually took us up to the balcony and cleared seats for us. We were GA, so it was interesting. Friendly guy, also the two ladies at the balcony bar were funny and remembered me each time, partly because I ordered 3 shots right from the get go.

All in all it was a great experience, glad I took the flight and attended all 4 events and got all the merch, couldn't find the EP though. Was a pain in the ass carrying everything back to the apartment, I was fucking loaded down with loot.

I can't wait to attend Miku Expo again.

I was a bit closer than half towards the stage yesterday. I missed the first two Miku songs because of taller people/a black girl with an afro but a kind dude made room for me between him and his tall son, and for the rest of the show I had a pretty good view, besides once in a while.

The worst was the fucks filming, because even if I could see over their head, their arms and phones would fuck me over. I missed a lot of the first part of the encore because of that.

Still, unless the VIP gifts are unimaginably good, I'll pick the floor again next time around. The energy and life is too good to pass up. Also, the hologram probably doesn't look too good so far away. I want to get as close to Miku as I can.

What was everyone's favorite song at the concert? Mine was Remote Control. It's a great song, but it was definitely the most fun for me to watch too.

Remote control was great, but I was stoked when they played love is war. Miku seemed really into it.
