I'll also throw out this recommendation since O-Life is slightly less well known but do some pretty consistently nice albums. They don't really have a fixed style and have wild jumps between ambience music, occasionally japanese acoustic instruments but occasionally do metal as well, this release happens to be a rare case of the last genre.

However it's worth passing by to see if they're selling any of their older albums if you get lucky you might find the fantastic SA symphonic orchestral cover they did for C89 which actually is kind of hard to obtain. It doesn't have any good rips and I don't think they're selling it online either.

Most of them have always been just slightly cleaner arrangements., some of the albums had drastically different arrangements of some old songs sometmes though.

Good examples I can think of are Fate of Sixty Years & Let's live in lovely cemetary in NtoJ which have different instrumentations. Necrofantasia in MA had a straight up different intro and arrangement.

The main focus of the albums has always usually been on the CD notes/story and the music was supposed to supplement them.

Touhou 14 and 15 seems to have started a bigger trend of making more buildup for the stage 6 boss' themes, which I think is pretty damn good. Let's take Little Princess first as an example. Right off the bat it starts off with siren-sounding guitars, it starts off a gradual incline which builds up the presence of the character you're fighting against. This works in a shit ton of ways, especially since you're fighting a character that's MUCH smaller than you, only going to show just how ambitious Shinmyou is.
Now let's move on to honestly the best part of the song, 1:28. The pace slows down but is replaced by an absolutely beautiful, soft-sounding, elegant piano buildup.
It gives me chills every time I listen to it, it's not ZUN's usual style of buildup then chorus, the buildup here lends itself INTO the chorus, what makes Shinmyou's theme so damn good is that it actually FEELS like you're fighting a true final boss, one who's ideologies are much stronger than the heroine's, it's a song that constantly builds up to a towering degree whilst also telling the story of a revolutionist, it's more than just a "boss theme", it also paints it's own picture.

This song honestly is what I believe to be ZUN's best stage 6 boss theme, like, in general. It's arguably the most complete, most final-boss-sounding theme in the whole series. There's no slow part to this song, it sounds grand and epic and it never stops, it sounds like you're ascending to fight against a force that's strong as hell but a force that you're on an equal footing to. Not only does it fit the "space"-vibe in terms of themes in LoLK, but it just never stops to slow down or catch up to itself, it SOUNDS like a moving battle. And then there's the fucking part at 2:50, an entire segment devoted to hyping up to the end. I'd honestly say this track is best for listening whilst actually playing the game, because when that part kicks in, the boss fight genuinely feels like something else. Honestly it's one of ZUN's absolute best works in terms of boss themes.

To be honest, Sekibanki's theme is ranked lowest among the DDC lot in my opinion. Her stage theme isn't anything special, her theme likewise is just forgettable along with her fight. Ending off, I think people give too much shit to ZUN by saying he's getting worse, when he nails a track, he fucking nails it harder than anyone else could. TD was the only game where I felt the OST was lacking, DDC had me there for a bit too but I was thoroughly convinced at the stage 3 theme and the brilliant stage 4 boss theme. LoLK's ost is much different, but everything from Ringo's theme onwards is just great.
