You guys like osu!? any of the game modes, although I like standard.

I've been wanting to get into other rhythm games for a while and downloaded LR2 the other day, currently playing "arcade style" on a keyboard. It feels REALLY awkward, and just getting my brain to learn which lane goes to which finger is awkward, not to mention since it's a keyboard I lose my place sometimes. If I learn "korean keyboard style" and try to switch to a controller when I feel invested enough into the game to spend that money, will it be difficult to switch? Should I just learn "korean keyboard style" and worry about that later?

put quotes because I picked those terms up off a google doc, and don't know how adopted they are here, so if I have to clarify just say so.
>>
>>14990109
I used to be able to clear up to 5* songs in standard, started playing mania, found bemani, bought IIDX controller and I developed a hate for osu because lol circlejerk. I started playing IIDX on a keyboard, capsZECTBUM style and it translated to a controller pretty well, except for having to learn to use the turntable. If you like IIDX, go and buy a dao fp7. It's so much better with a controller

I still play osu! but not as often. It's fun, and getting full combo on maps is still a great feeling despite the frustrating journey to get there.
I just installed LR2 like 3 days ago actually, and already I like it more than osu!mania, though that's not saying much. I play IIDX on the side, so I went with an arcade style keyboard config (shift awdrgyj) and it's been serving me pretty well, though hitting scales is pretty difficult. If it's your first VSRG then mind-mapping the lanes to a specific key is just a matter of practice. When I started with IIDX I thought the blue notes (2,4,6) were really hard to read.
What's "korean keyboard style"?

Honestly, Hinabitter isn't terrible to listen to, but they've taken up a pretty notable chunk of the songlist in later BEMANI games, especially pop'n and jubeat. Hell, CKP is pretty much FLOWER status at this point.

For reference, jubeat prop, the most recent jubeat, has 9 BEMANI originals in the default songlist.
7 of those originals are Hinabitter.

The original concept is a blatant cash-in on the popularity of Love Live too

honestly, where do all these BMS charts come from? are there actually so many content creators in japan that collaborate to create new music for BMS charts, then create 3 individual difficulties of keysounded charts, and (occasionally) make full BGAs for the song that are then released for free to the public?

because that's kind of impressive

>>
>>14996876
It's like Osu!, if everyone who made a chart in Osu! also had to write the music for it.

Only then will you understand how all of it can be so utterly trash.
>>
>>14996876
not all of it is shit, but most of it is. for like every 1 decent song there's at least 15 shit songs to go with it.
>>
>>14996939

Why can't they make bms of anime songs or music by other artists like osu does, what's stopping that from occuring
>>
>>14996953
if it's not copyright it's probably tradition, as far as I know BMS has always been about making your own shit and charting it rather than charting other stuff

I mean if you look somewhere other than BMS of Fighters you'll probably find fanmade BMS for some songs or something
>>

this is on a djdao controller, but the arcade cabinets are basically similar.

that's fine but you're missing the whole aspect of slapping big colorful mounds with your hands, as opposed to fingering little buttons. might as well be playing beatmania.
>>
>>14996996

>you're missing the whole aspect of slapping big colorful mounds with your hands

Yeah, I know. I plan on getting one eventually. Cause on a keyboard, the most trivial chords like Yellow-Grey become a pain in the dick.
>>
>>14996953
>>14996956
Almost every single BMS out there in the wild has keysounds, and making keysounds from existing songs is impossible without author's permission due to lack of access to stems which can be sliced to individual notes, and turning them into keysounds. In "BMS community", nobody likes charts with no keysounds, so might as well not bother to make one at all.

There's a plastic nut that goes on the bottom of the button and is screwed on the stem and would just need tightened.

There's a mirror for LR2 aka Lunatic Rave, the IIDX simulator on reddit as the original site has been down for a while

Google will give you a download for KSM aka K-Shoot Mania which is a SDVX simulator

Jubeat and Reflec Beat and Groove Coaster are all available on iPad

For AC versions of these you'll have to get into sows, which can be accomplished by knowing a friend, posting a drawing of cindy in IRC, or cumming on mayumi here with your email address.

Honestly i feel really comfortable playing 11s and 10s. 12s are more of a "look at me, i'm at the peak of iidx players, i can take on any song" kind of thing, while 10-11s are more of a "hey this is pretty challenging, but really fun" kind of thing.
>>
>>15014359

My skill level has literally nothing to do with the assessment of difficulty levels.

11s make 10s look like 2s.

As in, there should be at LEAST three more difficulty levels where 11s are now 14 and 12s are 15s+.

The average difference in density between a 10 and an 11 is greater than the difference between any other two levels.

Prepare for the same spiel when I hit 12s
>>
>>15014394

Also, by this gauge Miracle 5ymphoX should be at least a 13.

I hate that song.
>>
>>15014394
All rhythm games suffer from exponential difficulties and extreme difficulty compression at the highest levels

This should not be news to you
>>
Is it typical to pick up SDVX, progress at the speed of light until 14s, and then hit a wall?
>>
>>15014425
Yes, because that's when you need to start memorizing things.
>>
>>15014425
Yeah, that's just acclimatizing to the controller and reaching your baseline skill because of what transferred over from other rhythm games. Everything below 13s might as well just be one difficulty though.
>>
>>15014425
Yes, anyone who's ever played another rhythm game will instantly follow that progression

14 is where knowing exactly where your hands should be on the controller at all times and reading complex patterns is actually difficult
>>
>>15014394
If you can do harder 10s then you definitely can do bottom tier 11s (Erosion mark for example)
>>
>>15014412
Hell, it should be an 11 right now, i don't know who decided to rate it a 10.
>>
>>15014415

sure but IIDX does it way worse than anything else though due to only having 12 levels. there's no reason why it couldn't up to a higher # of levels.

Are there any great IIDX players (12+) whi play sitting on their computer chair? Otherwise, there is stuff like barkwaltz or a good chunk of Osamu Kubota songs.
>>
I inherited a JKOC about a week ago and I found that my old PS2 to USB converter is ass. Anyone have a good recommendation?
>>
>>15019095
No PS2/USB converter is perfect, there will always be lag. That said, I've heard good things about those blue dual-port adapters you can find literally everywhere on ebay and amazon. I have a blue box adapter that mysteriously also has a port for N64 controllers, and it gets the job done (I have a USKOC and those are notoriously less reliable with adapters)
>>
>>15016783
I got a rather solid bar stool for $50 shipped and the keyboard stand for $30 shipped and they work decently well, but the stool is really high so even after lifting my monitor i still have to angle it upwards. The stand can wobble a bit with heavy scratching too so I use my feet to brace the legs against wobbling and sliding on the hard floor.
>>
>>15019095
Stick a usbemani v2 or arcin in there. Using a ps2/usb converter is garbage. Or just get a dao :^)
>>
>>15019095
Sell it on eBay to an idiot, and then build your own controller with the 50 bucks you made. The KOCs are just awful to use, that mushy feeling gives you absolutely no feedback on when you're hitting the note. You can try putting coins and shit in the buttons and sanding down the sides so they don't stick, or you can just learn basic woodworking skills like "how do I put a hole in a piece of wood".

>>
>>15023249
>If you play perfectly the scoring system doesn't matter
is this bait?
that aside, mech keyboards really are great for rhythm games. a few top bms players use a generic rubberdome keyboard to play but they're not human so whatever
>>

not combo based.
>>
>>15023269
>95.33 accuracy scores lower than 94.68 accuracy
>no difference in mods, only a higher combo

the scoring should only be that percentage and nothing else
>>
>>15023289
consecutive pgreats give you a bonus, so it's not combo based, it's just retarded

I'm still a bit salty about it
>>
>>15023295
that's literally the definition of combo based.

>consecutive non-misses give you a bonus
>>
>>15023298
No, it isn't. Consecutive pgreats give you a bonus, but everything else is acc based

consecutive greats won't give you a bonus, and the bonus doesn't add up exponentially like in standard
>>
>>15023295
Consecutive anything is essentially "combo", even if it's atypical because it's "PGREAT combo".
>>
>>15023326
I usually look at it not as combo because it's different from standard, but you're right, it can be considered combo based
>>
>>15023304
Not him, can you explain in detail? The A is higher than the S because more pgreats?
>>
>>15023289
osu memeia doesnt factor in difference between pgreat and great differences from accuracy. like if a song has 1200 notes, if 800 of the notes hit were pgreat and 400 of the notes were greats, the acc would be 100%, 1199 notes were hit as greats and only 1 note was at as a pgreat, than the acc would still be 100% but the score would be lower. if there is anything in there of combo based (which i've never heard of except for >>15023295, i've never heard anyone saying this though) than it's not even noticeable, like on 4k insane on Imperishable Night 2006, ABCD got an FC on it a long time, but his score got beat by other players due to having lower acc.
>>
>>15023581
More PGreats in a row makes it higher.

So for example a sequence

PG G PG G PG G PG G

scores lower than a sequence

PG PG PG PG G G G G
>>
>>15023586
But what is the math behind it?
>>
>>15023591
fuck if I know I don't play osu

I play games with easy math where pgreat = 2 points and great = 1 points and everything else is 0
>>

i laugh when i see ddr videos with scores like 995,700
>>
>>15023597
>>15023591
https://osu.ppy.sh/wiki/Osu!mania#Score
if i'm reading this correctly, consecutive pgreat/greats add +2 to the score, it's not exponential like in standard, not that big of an issue but still retarded.
>>
>>15023600
because nobody cares about money score

they should just remove it from the game literally nobody has ever used it ever
>>
>>15023606
I'm not saying to replace ex with money score, just make the money score you see during play actually means something remotely relevant and maybe display it alongside your actual score

A percentage would work too
>>
>>15023616
To be fair there's no reason for a percentage when you have the giant score graph

just remove it from the game it's totally useless
>>
>>15023621
>To be fair there's no reason for a percentage when you have the giant score graph
I'd rather see an actual percentage than try to eyeball it via a bar
They could just pop it right on the end, it wouldn't even take up any extra space
>>
I want a next rank pacemaker. If your best rank for a song is an A, the pacemaker for that run would be AA and so on.
>>
>>15023584
There's some combo scoring, but the degree to which it applies mostly depends on your accuracy (bonus rises with max300s, falls with 200s), so it's not incredibly obnoxious. Still creates dumb situations tho.

How fragile is this whole PSun construct?

Ever since I cracked the code and got into the secret club I've come to realize just how seemingly delicate this whole thing is and how we all have to basically walk on eggshells about the whole thing. Y'know, except this fuck here >>14995527.

any parts orders from gamo2 cost $30+ to ship, rakuten's usually $10-12 for small orders. don't use 20g in a pop'n though because you might as well not even have springs in there anymore.

No, unless you get the hardest microswitches you can then the buttons won't go back up if you go springless. I'm on a stock IIDX Dao setup and i've tried springless before, so if a IIDX button can't go springless, then a Pop'n cant either.
>>
>>15030177

For pop'n a very light switch without a spring might not go back up.
