I completely understand ZUN "selling out" though. He's not going back on his word as much as accommodating to his changing priorities.

Touhou has been ZUN's business, his work for a few years, since he quit Taito. Since then he brought together a few friends as his team of business managers and created a parent company for the purpose of protecting his assets, interests and such which was step one that led to this.

He probably never envisioned going to consoles, but when the opportunity came, he took it, and did what he could to bring along a few friends and doujin creators in the same position as he is with him. He's been bigger than doujin for a while and though he tried to resist. has seen his role in doujin change and is now embracing it somewhat while helping others.

Remaining doujin is a nice ideal, but it's just not very realistic. His monthly manga is probably a nice paycheck, but not enough if he wants to provide as best he can for his family and save for the future while remaining self-employed. Your word doesn't put food on the table. He realized what an asset he has and decided to monetize it further. And I don't blame him for it.

Correction: Tasofro is putting ULiL on PS4. Tasofro's works are basically canon fangames, and they're licensed differently to the main series. ZUN already gave his approval for a few fangames to be released on PS4 as part of the "Play! Doujin" scheme.

ZUN and Tasofro don't see eye to eye on everything. For one thing: ZUN supports and even encourages translation patches, but Tasofro are against them.
