I think that's entirely correct. I believe this artwork conveys that initial coldness nicely. It'd be really cool of KC did some of the film monsters as MGs, but he's got his hands full already. Oh god, tell me about it. There's some videos on the wiki of a Japanese guy using those kinds of builds and terrain exploits to beat it, but I bet he spent hours trying to get them to work, because it's finicky as shit.
From what I've tested, the method with Dunban, Shulk and Seven is the safest. Use Riki's ability to build the party gauge while engaging without drawing agro. Then switch to control Dunban, use the aura that raises his accuracy, and follow up with Gale Slash and Wordly Slash to build the final bit of meter after you've lured the enemy onto the island.
Then immediately use his strength up aura and buff remover attack, which makes him face away from the enemy and without moving, and follow up with Thunder to daze. Ether attacks have higher accuracy than physical attacks, depending on your tension, so if it Dazes, immediately go into a chain attack, and deal as much damage as possible to kill it like that.
If any step fails because of a missed attack or resistance to daze, flee the island until you're not being chased and start over.
Using gems to lower enemy daze res might help, as well as any gems or skills which will boost ether accuracy and chain attack chance and damage.
Also, I think you can fight it on the absolute cusp of dusk so Night Vision gems will work. That in itself might give you another strategy to employ, seeing as how it'll mean you can effectively draw agro. If you can keep up with its damage (AI Shulk with Monado Armour
to respond to visions might help with this) then you might have a fighting chance.
