Feels so good.
Now, what should I buy first?
>>14786914
Well, you get that gold in chips, not actual gold. So there's not much to buy except official mode plays. Or event plays. The one at the bottom gives free items for the 1st, 2nd, and 4th plays of 4 player and 3 player.
>>14786922
>actual gold
You mean, I'd have to use real money? What a tease.
>>14786960
If you wanted to play the gacha? Yes. You can still get some cosmetic items by playing official mode and completing a bingo card, though. Just make sure you equip an appropriate one before playing.

Partial excuse on the 2-dan. But both 3-dan?
Aside from the 7-kyuu, they're practially playing a joukyuu game amongst themselves, at ippan rates. That's both a waste of time and sucks to the one who gets 4th (assuming the 7-kyuu survives).

I found out I perform better if I take breaks inbetween games when playing ranked. I used to jump all over the place but now my rank and R is steadily rising.

I'll try that. I usually play 4-5 games in a row and by the end of the day my R is usually back where it started, or lower.

>>14793331
Sorry anon, but judging from that game I think your tile efficiency needs work.
>>14793367
I know, I need some concrete examples
>>14793376
>E1-1
You should discard 6p ASAP instead of 8p because you're looking for a pair, and 6p is both the dora indicator and more dangerous. This backfired when you drew 8p later. Then in the middle of betaori you kanned for no reason.
>E1-2
You broke up 13s by discarding the bird instead of 1m. The dragon tiles are also all more valuable to keep before 1m.
Later you discarded 4p from 3445p instead of the worthless 9m from 679m. 3445p is an extremely valuable shape because it's 34+45 and you didn't have a pair, so 23456p would all have improved your hand.
>E1-3
In general stop kanning unless you're near tenpai and losing badly because kans are risky. Your early 3p kan ruined a 13p + 333p shape.
etc.
Read all the articles on this blog, starting with these:

>>14793400
Are you the guy who was critiquing games several threads ago?
>>14793418
I think there's someone else that does that a lot more often, so probably not. It's possible.
Mostly I respond to the "what would you do" stuff.
Do you guys have tips for identifying ukeire/winning tiles when chinitsu? I've tried training with the bamboo game but I'm still too slow for the timer of Tenhou
>>14793376
Concrete? Try abstract. Unless you happen to be defending, consider not breaking up "connected tiles" so early.
By "connected tiles", I'm talking about something like 7-8-9. Don't break things up like this - unless you have good reason to do so.
>>14793491
There aren't really any tips or tricks to it, you just need to be able to recognise complex patterns. Keep playing the bamboo game until you get the hang of it.
>>14793491
To speed up the process, locate potential pairs. From there, you may be able to string various groups of three tiles fairly quickly.
Why the fuck would someone go for open tanyao if they're in last by more than 20k points? I was 2k away from first in S4, and then they drag me down to 3rd with their shitty useless hand that serves absolutely no purpose after I called riichi. Fuck him, and fuck this game.
>>14793795
They probably just accepted the loss and wanted to move on.
>>14793795
>Why the fuck would someone go for open tanyao if they're in last by more than 20k points?
Because he's a loser, who wanted the suffering to end.
>>14793814
>>14793821
They should just betaori and not get in the way of the big girls.
>>14794363
Do you betaori when you're in fourth with no chance of comeback in orasu? You probably do the same thing. I know it sucks to get a potential first stolen out from under you by a pointless hand, but that's going to happen a lot, so you might as well get used to it.
>>14794392
I know, but every time it happens I can feel my blood pressure spike.
>>14794392
I think I would rather wait for my chance, hoping for renchan, and/or try to inflate hands with random kans hoping that one player will lose enough points to end up 4th.
>>14794392
there is always a chance in mahjong, you only need a yakuman

Can you tell if someone mostly plays mahjong online? I've heard pros talk about it being obvious once you play them in real life but they never explain further.
>>14796288
I supposed the most obvious way is how they handle tiles.
>>14796298
That was what I thought of as well, probably combined with them not playing like novices it would be obvious
>>14796306
I scored a haneman tsumo for my first real hand ever. Ah, the memories.
But despite playing online and with computers for a year or two, basic game rule mechanics that computers handle for you -- well -- people have to do it themselves.

Yep. That is the condition called "muh tenpai", where the joy of attaining tenpai may end up ignoring any sort of defensive considerations.
>>14810643
For example, "Red dragon (中)", "Green dragon (发)", and "White dragon (白)" in the traditional mahjong tiles embody Chinese people's simple desires for "progress", "getting rich", and "promotion". In our new version of Max Mahjong, they are replaced by "Safari", "White house", and "Statue of Liberty", to pay a tribute to the American spirits of adventure, equality, and freedom.

So you think it's fun dealing into hands when your opponents reach tenpai before you?
Hyper-offensive styles where you don't give a fuck should be reserved for 7447. In actual ranked games, you can't assume you'll always reach tenpai first.

Do you usually discard a dealt pair of non seat/round wind if something like chiitoitsu or toitoi isn't an option?
>>14812394
They can form the pair for pinfu, so I'd say hang onto them unless you already have a pair in mind.
>>14812394
Depends if tanyao or a dora pair are an option. If not, no because they're usually good for defense.
>>14812394
Depends on the rest of your hand. If you have a couple dora already, just sit on it as you are trying to riichi quickly. They also help later for defense.

Is winning with a suuankou tanki machi a double yakuman in tenhou?

>>14817088

>>14817277
He's got all honors which are probably the hardest to get for a kokushi, and 10 isn't a small amount, I'd say that with 10 you should start considering it.
You're right it's probably smarter to reset, but being 7447, I'd absolutely go for the kokushi.
>>14817257
Oh, wow. I didn't even notice. I just saw the many honor tiles and thought what a kuso hand.

How often should one depend on sujis? I got hit by a suji trap twice in a game.
>>14784929
2.0
>>14817683
Ask yourself, how early in the round is it? How many tiles can you see that are around the suji? Is the suji tile one of 2378? Is the tile you want to discard suji of their riichi tile?
If you're defending then it's better to not rely on suji as much as you can, just discard tiles that they've discarded. If you run out of those, then start discarding the tiles that have the fewest possible waiting shapes.
>>14817683
I still don't understand suji and sometimes I think I'm better off that way.
>>14817277
All he needs are the 1's and 9's. That's an easy path to get. And if it doesn't pan out, he has some easy discards to make.
>>14817683
It depends on the suji. 1/9 are the safest because they can only be shanpon or tanki if 4/6 have been dealt. The suji of tiles near tenpai are the most dangerous, with special mention given to the actual tenpai tile. It's very common for people to have a ryankan shape such as 1-3-5, then riichi by discarding the 5 and try for suji traps. Suji that get discarded after tenpai/riichi are usually safer, but it's not guaranteed.

FUCK THIS GAME
I feel like this 3dan is a bully.
>>14819983
You brought it on yourself the first time by riichi'ing that late with a wait that was not only bad, but half dead at best.
The second time is unfortunate, but considering the best it would do is get you out of 4th, you could have stayed damaten and tried to get a direct hit off 3rd. Iipeikou Dora 1 is 2600 on ron, with tsumo instead it's 1000/2000. You would've overtaken him in either case and even gotten second if you tsumo'd. At the very least, you could've waited to riichi until you drew the 6 man for a better wait plus a chance at the red 5 man.
>>14820030
This. It's all about risk and return. Calling riichi isn't going always going to make the opponent fold even if you are the dealer. If you have a bad wait, expect to be punished for it, especially if you can't see the majority of the dora.
>>14820018
What the fuck is a 3dan doing in ippan?
>>14820108
Bullying.
>>14820108
Whenever you clean your cookies it resets the default lobby to ippan. I've accidentally entered many games there that way.
Or maybe he was getting bullied and decided to bully instead.
>>14820030
Well, riichi here sure was very risky and I wouldn't complain at all, if I even get fucked by some kind of baiman with better wait.
My problem here is even if my wait was half dead, I still have the best wait among all the riichi.
Getting ron that way (kamicha getting my winning title one move earlier and dealing into hell wait chiitoi with fucking akax3) is like game give me big FUCK YOU in the face.
S4 was even more unfortunate than orasu, but well, I hoped to end it quickly. Waiting for 6m wouldn't change anything in this game, but sure I will keep it in my mind and use it when the time come.
Thanks for feedback.
>>14820071
Yesterday I was scolded for not going for riichi with even worse shape (could be tsumo ippatsu), so you never know what's gonna happen. But yea, I can agree that risk/return in this situation was quite shit.
Or maybe game just scolded me for not going for 123 sanshoku (that's why I keep that 1m for so long).
>>14820257
>Yesterday I was scolded for not going for riichi with even worse shape
That's because they're only looking at the end result of one hand. If you riichi for every bad wait expecting ippatsu you're in for a world of hurt.
Forever second, never third.
>>14820731
But that's a positive gain. I'll trade you, if you like.
>>14820108
No 3-dan and above should ever go back to ippan. The loss is the same, and the only way to gain is by placing 1st.

What's your total game count across all of your IDs?
https://sites.google.com/site/mjnetguide/systems/rating
Since mine started displaying, I got curious about the details behind MJ-NET's rating system and added a page on it. It seems to be very similar to Tenhou, which makes me a little sad that it took this long for it to start showing up, as 1600 is not a very high rate there.
That said, I've played less than a hundred games on MJ-NET, and tonpussen is extremely swingy and short compared to the hanchans I'm used to playing, so maybe it's to be expected.
I also question the need for the decimal.
