Are there any tricks for beating E4 Final Kill if you don't have much T3 ASW gear? I'm consistently getting stuck with about 30-40 HP left on the boss after Night Battle. My latest idea is to sortie with two bars unresupplied, so Hayasui chips in and brings the supplies back up for the Boss Node. Would that even work?

Don't bother with Tomonaga. Personally I'd go with 6 night recons (>implying equipment locking), but that's just me. Also 16 Egusas.

4 repair facilities is already enough, and unless you have only like 6-7 subs 12 FaTs aren't enough. You want enough to be able to equip all your subs with FaTs, since switching them around when you subslave would be a real hassle.

I'd also recommend you upgrade all your OTOs on hand. 90mm is optional.

Finally, I have a very long upgrade list that I'll probably never complete, but hey.

Hey, I'm new to the game. Trying to learn the stuff without asking annoying questions, but modernization is one thing I'm not sure about. Is it just a way to reach the stat cap before levels get you that far, or it allows for ships to go over their maximum stat at lv. 99? I have many ships I could use for it, but only Samidare and Yukikaze are at their final Kai level.
Also, I'm still trying to beat 2-4 (most of main fleet is only Lv. 20, using the first node to grind) but I'm told I'll need subs for later stages. Should I just drop everything and go grind 1-5 right now for some before HQ level gets too high? (at 25 currently)

Subs are more of a convenience thing, you largely don't need them for clearing maps. What you want right now are battleships.

No. Leveling is not a good way to increase the ship's stats. Just use any common ships to modernize the ship that you want to max.

Don't worry, there's plenty of modernization fodder. If girl reaches Kai, you should immediately start modernizing her. Start with the most important ones for your needs. Without armor you'll just get wrecked easily and waste a lot of time and resources on repairs.

1-5 is the most important for training DD/sCLs safely. Subs can be obtained from rare DD recipe (which you should be doing anyway for Shimakaze and Yukikaze, but only for daily quests) and Iku drops at 2-5 or 3-5.

Your stats don't increase on level up, only when moving to Kai and Kai Ni. Modernisation is just a way to increase these stats beyond the base cap, but they'll rise over time by themselves towards the modernisation cap as you use them in sorties.

All I have for BBs is Kongou, Fusou and Mutsu, was using the daily crafts to try to get more. I'll switch to trying to get Shimakaze and subs once I get a 4th.
As suggested, will also shove them full of armor once I get them Kai'd.

Eh, subs are pretty important more especially for noob. With subs you can cheese 2-4 to unlock 3-2. 3-2 is where you want to be to get all the monkeys for 4th fleet. You also can get to dailies with subs for resources gain.
BB is actually pretty useless since you only need to run 1BB for most map.
