Bullshit, we had to close a lot of profitable factories, due to limits imposed by the EU (for example, sugar factories or milk factories). Maybe you don't know, but the EU has national limits for production of sugar or milk - no country can produce more of these goods than a certain amount, definied in Brussels.

And even if some factories were uncompetitive, they could be just reformed, just like the Chinese did. But they didn't let westerners buy out all of their industry and that's why they're about to become a world superpower now, unlike countries like Brazil, that are owned by international companies.

Not to mention, that a a lot of western EU countries support their uncompetitive companies. France helped their car manufacturers, Germans saved their shipyards by transferring money from the public budget, but Poland couldn't do it.
