Court of European Commission has demanded punishment for Poland for cutting down a national, well preserved natural forest.
It was in Bialowieza national park and it is considered a world heritage site. Even if Polish government owns the lands, they shouldn't cut down the forest and they should respect EU laws of nature preservation.
The last known Wiezentas, an European bison species, live in Poland, in this very forest. This bovine species was hunted to extinction, except small natural population still lives in this forest after its relatives were all killed for food everywhere in Europe in early 19th century.
There is 450 live animals in the last count that was made by researchers.

And that's not to mention that in no-interference areas you're not supposed to interfere with natural plagues either.
