It's funny because te reflection in the mirror wouldn't be laughing if the person that the mirror ought to be reflecting isn't laughing.
This, of course, could also be understood that because a German told the joke the mirror is awaiting an explanation of why it ought to be laughing, which in turn would require another German to explain the joke. Now, the explaining German would need someone to explain the situation of the absurdity of the situtation (ie the ever so increasing amount of Germans to laugh ie explain the joke) that it mimicks (or should we say mirrors hmm?) the so-called Problem of Plato's third man.

They are about misunderstandings and puns.
Every joke begins with someone knocking. The person to whom the joke is told must ask "Who's there?". The knocker says something. The guy has to repeat what was said and add who? as if the knocker gave a firstname. Then the knocker gives the punchline which is funny because everyone expected xy Who was some kind of person but it's not the case
