Why do the japanese love towelettes so much?

I've recently been in Japan, and no matter what I bought... I always got a towelette with it. No matter if it was a sandwich in a Family Mart or 7eleven, some fastfood in McDonalds or a game console in akihabara. I got like 10 of them every single day. They also seem to be the #1 advertising gift there; i got at least 2 of them per day from an advertiser on the street.

I mean.... towelettes are nice during hot days... but so many? Who is supposed to use all of them?

i love them dude, especially in summer when it's so humid one wipe of the face and the thing will be covered in dirt

I never get towelettes in conbini or game shop. probably because the shoppers thought you have to use it.
