This is a good point.

No country is better than the USA, because the best people from all the other countries chose to immigrate here. We're a new world country, so we have all the best immigrants since they all (minus historical-slaves) chose to immigrate here on their own will.

Europeans didn't recently choose to immigrate to Europe, Chinese people didn't choose to immigrate to China, Indian people didn't choose to immigrate to India, etc.

But everyone in the USA chose to immigrate here. We have the best of the best, the best British, the best Italians, the best Russians, Germans, Indians, Polish, Chinese, Japanese, etc.

So when a Britfag insults the USA, they're basically insulting a coalition best British people + the best people of other cultures too.

and no one has more pride than MURICA

There's no reason to ever leave this beautiful country. We're the most geographically diverse country on Earth.

Want a tropical vacation with volcanoes? Don't go to the Bahamas/Mexico/Mediterranean, go to Hawaii.

Want a cold tundra experience? Don't go to Russia, go to Alaska.

Want to experience Japanese culture? Don't go to Japan, go to San Francisco or Honolulu.

Want to see the fish culture of Nordic Europe? Go to Maine or Ballard in Seattle.

Want to see Europe? Go to New York or Vegas (there's a part of Vegas that looks just like Italy).

Plus we make the best movies, have the best universities, and create all the music on earth.

>>

Modern Greek culture is highly divergent from ancient Greek culture, but it's still stronger than say -- Egyptian culture. Indian culture was surprisingly better preserved despite the constant fragmentation and invasion. China was largely isolated and even foreign dynasties didn't culturally alter it much.

>>79533985
This. Greeks were identifying as Roman and not Greek for about a thousand years even if they continued to speak Greek.
>>
>>79533985
Then it's probably just China. All the ancient people were eventually raped by somebody else and then forged new identities after that but chinks seem to be the only ones that carried a lot of their original culture to the 20th century. Even modern day Hinduism is vastly different to ancient Hinduism.

Even before that, there's a disconnection between the Indus Valley civilizations and ancient (Vedic) India akin to the gap between the Mycenaeans and Minoans and classical Greece. We still haven't deciphered Indus Valley writings, and it is doubtful that we ever will.

China technically got overrun by barbarians a few times, but its culture persisted and we never lost the ability to read their moonrunes and we had successive political entities from the iron age to last century. Perhaps a bigger blow was the cultural revolution, but not even the loss of one generation is enough to erase that amount of culture accumulated over millennia. Still, I wish the Chinese on the mainland took better care of their cultural artifacts.

>>
>>79535105
Chinese people were never religious in the western sense of the word.

They've always had Confucianism, which lives on in the cultural mindset of every Chinese (save for the "lost generation") as well as every culture derived from the Chinese.

Buddhism and Taoism forged a lot of culture over the centuries, but they were never religions "practiced" in the same sense that the West practice Christianity or MENA practices Islam, but more akin to the way Western people practice enlightenment ideals nowadays regardless of religion, and they were never majority religions to begin with.

And most of all, religion isn't the same as culture.

Africa should be number one. We essentially invented humans since all humans came from Africa. We also created some of the best music known to man (pic related is just a modern contribution. It goes WAY back) and contributed to some of the greatest inventions. There's actually a dispute going on right now about African mathematicians in history, lots of their work has been stolen by the Greeks, Turks, Indians, Chinese, but the ideas all originate from one place.

In what way particularly? the earliest vedic cities were constructed in a manner similar to the IVC ones, late harappan era cities had fire altars and the measurement system, loads of minor and major gods and others were lifted off them. If anything the PIE culture got merged into a new indian one where the previous indo european gods began to slide into irrelevance in favour of the trimurti.
Depending on where you want to star counting where indian culture starts you can start from either one of those points.

I'm not disputing any of that. Indeed, PIE peoples were assimilated into the IVC, but this happened after "something" happened to it that required the IVC to migrate further into the subcontinent and lose its writing. That's what I mean by the gap.

Russia, Canada and China are bigger. Even Brazil is, if you exclude Alaska.

More importantly, I don't see why this helps answer anon's question.

>people absolutely believe that the american dream is real, and to a certain extent it still is.
It is not. I understand if you call it the land of opportunities, because really, there are a lot more opportunities there (even for foreigners), than most other places in the world. The foreigners part is really important, since most similarly sized and/or growing economies are generally closed to foreigners unless they're already wealthy investors.

However, the American dream where you can pull yourself by your bootstraps and make a fortune through hard work is really a fairy tale. The opportunities are there, but you'll be forced to trample and exploit other people in order to reach your goal. It'll be cunning and not hard work what gets you there.

>community that leaves you space to develop on your own.
This is much too vague to respond. I'm not entirely sure what you mean here.

Still, this has nothing to do with >history and culture

>>79536475
Did you reply to me by accident?

>>79536480
The fact that we need a rosetta stone in the first place means that the writing was lost at some point. Once again, this is just like how Minoan and Mycenaean civillizations had a gap (a "dark age") before reaching classical Greece. Greek culture wasn't lost during that time, but there's a noticeable gap in its continuum.

Want to experience Japanese culture? Don't go to Japan, go to Lyon, Paris or Toulouse in the Asian districts or at any Japoan Expo we hold every three months.

Want to see the fish culture of Nordic Europe? Go to London, fifth French city by its population full of Nordic looking landwhales !

Want to see Europe? Just do a road-trip through metropolitan France, from north to South you'll experience variations of Spain, England, Germany, Switzerland or Italy.

Plus we make the best movies, have the best universities, and we have the best food on Earth, second only to the Italian one which is right next to us.

Come at me bro, I'll fight you.

It's hard to remove Italy, France or China. And since we're not talking about influence or power, but history and culture, I'm more inclined to give an edge to Spain and Japan simply because their histories are a lot more interesting and their cultures a lot more vibrant, at least in my opinion.

>Greece
The modern Greek state regained independence from the Ottomans less than two years ago, and even before that, it had existed as a successor state to Rome, not Greece. It is significantly different from ancient Greece, which basically ceased to exist when conquered by Rome. More importantly, the state itself seems to be on a permanent state of economic crisis, which is exactly the type of situation I'd classify as a "sorry state."

You might say that Italy unified relatively recently, but it had maintained its cultural identity and any foreign power that governed part of its territory was a close "sister" state, like the crown of Aragon. You might say China had been ruled by foreigners until recently, but Manchu's (and others) were assimilated in such a way that the Ottomans never were into Greek culture. You can say "cultural revolution", to which I'd mention that's exactly the reason China lands on 5th instead of 1st on that list. It's also hard to put China as decadent when it is currently the 2nd power in the world and still rising.

>compared to a hundred years ago
Why would I compare it its lowest state when I can compare it to

>>79537474 >8000+ years of history?

India falls under the same problem as Greece. It was ruled by foreigners for most of its modern history and it is still only starting to develop now. And it's been developing great recently with competent leadership, but it's still playing catch up to the similarly humiliated Chinese and really does not get to the living standards of any country I ranked above it save for (maybe) Iran. Things might change in the near future, but that's the situation right now.

>>79537474
I have never made a public defecation joke.

Also, history is what is recorded, which for the Indian subcontinent starts about 5000 years ago at the earliest. Everything before that is (literally) pre-history.
>>
>>79537428
You can state that for almost every nation that exists . Our culture is intact both from the Ottomans and the Romans (excluding some islands ) . Plus the thread was also about history
>>
>>79537725
>Our culture is intact both from the Ottomans
I never implied the Ottomans had changed your culture, only that you were being ruled by a foreign power that never assimilated to yours.

>and the Romans
I highly doubt that, given that the Greek state that existed throughout the whole Middle Ages was Roman first and Greek second despite the WRE and Rome itself being lost to barbarians centuries beforehand. Even after independence, you looked West for the basis for your modern nation state (both for the Kingdom and the subsequent Republic), not towards ancient Greece.

>Plus the thread was also about history
Greece has a very rich history from the time of the Minoans to its conquest by Rome. Then it gets put on hold until the modern nation state declared independence from the Ottomans.

And in any case, the crisis in your country is the main reason I've put it on the second list. If Italy was the one in crisis while Greece was one of the main players Europe, their positions would be the other way around, because first and foremost, the division I made isn't based on how legitimate the claim of each country to its ancient culture is, just how well the country is doing right now compared to its legacy.

And honestly, I didn't expect people to care so much about my silly list.

It's big, but summarize it starts with Iberia and Colchis two ancient kartvelian cultures, so even tho we've changed we are their direct descendants(hence the name sakartvelo, kartveli), so its like if sumerians and egyptians had their own country and spoke their own language. We are living in a very hard region, every empire that rose from the east tried to conquer us, some succeded, some didn't, but noone took our identity and faith.Well, I'm an atheist myself and support pagan tradition as cultural monuments, but without christianity we would be muslim and speak arabic or turkic at this point. Epic thing was impossible victories like for example battle of didgori, which triggers turks even today.

Yes, they were eventually Indianized, but it came as a trade off with huge chunks of the population becoming Persianized/Islamized, hence Pakistan and Bangladesh. And they're not even the last rulers of India before the current state.

Living standards for the populous were downright horrible everywhere for all of human history before modernity. But previously influential countries have managed to raise the living standards of most of the population. Even China has managed to increase its urban middle class, and it's still raising. As far as I'm aware that's also happening in India to an extent, but the process is still in very early stages.

>>79541181
What?

Greece was part of the Ottoman Empire from the 15th century until the 19th century.
Most of India was ruled by the Mughals, then various European powers, and then exclusively the Brits from around the 16th century until the 20th.

I don't even know how you're disagreeing with that statement. Is it a problem with the definition of "modern" history? Because the "modern" period starts around the time of the fall of Constantinople and the discovery of the Americas under most definitions.

They were vassal states most of the time. And even then it was only around four centuries with constant rebellions.
>Most of India was ruled by the Mughals, then various European powers, and then exclusively the Brits from around the 16th century until the 20th.
The Dutch and Portuguese actually failed a lot of their planned colonization. The Mughals reach wouldn't extend across all of India until the early eighteenth century. And the British takeover of the continent wouldn't start until the late eighteenth century.

It's the other way around. They forgot that they're Romans and began thinking they were Greeks. They probably switched the name specifically to mean they weren't Pagans, now they reversed to the Pagan word while Ottomans would have turned them into Turks if they were "Greeks" (i.e., Pagans)

Aside from the from the most important Greek city falling permanently onto Ottoman's hands, all of mainland Greece was part of the Empire for most of the time we're talking about. Many of the islands escaped Ottoman conquest, but they were still ruled by a foreigner in the form of Venice to begin with.

>And even then it was only around four centuries
>out of 6 that we can call "modernity"
Hmmmm.

>India
Yeah, that's the thing. The very concept of a united India comes from colonization. You can say that the Mughals didn't control all of India, but India as we understand it didn't exist to begin with at the time. The whole subcontinent was balkanized, and the Mughal Empire was one of the most influential powers in the region.

Another thing about mentioning Iran instead of Iraq, just because Iran slowly became the political center in the region doesn't mean their "culture" was ever bigger than Mesopotamia's. People seem to think they've magically been irrelevant but there are two entire religions with possibly a majority living in/originating from Mesopotamia. The holiest city in Iran's majority religion is in Iraq and Zoroastrians are also more numerous in India than in Iran. Iran just became wealthier than them and only very slowly.

What exactly do you mean? Is current Iran similar to current Iraq? Then yeah, but that's because both Persia and Mesopotamia were changed by the Arabs, not because the Arabs changed Persia to look more like ancient Mesopotamia.
