Unironically should've intervened in the civil-war and created this. Not even meming, not even shitposting, I've read extensively on 19th century British Imperial geopolitics and intervening in the Civil War was the only chance to stop America overtaking Britain as a world power and many of our leading political figures believed the same.
Dunno how southerners would feel about being part of a british plan to weaken America though.

BLM was a response to repeated police violence against blacks over the course of many years, encompassing everything from Rodney King to the killings of today. It was a build up rather than a immediate response, and BLM has developed far beyond what it originally set out to accomplish, I don't think it's fair to compare an activist group to a riot.

>>79446620
Last straw before they decided to actually do something about it, create a movement for all the resentment blacks held against the police force for decades, and channel it into a movement for change within the police force, but now it's turned into some sort of Frankenstein's monster of all sorts of collaborative movements and efforts.

is there a point to state's rights when the federal government owns most of your state?
>>79449038
Fighting to get it back I guess
not that it did those ranchers any good
>>79449038
Here's another map of Federal owned land.
>>79449038
Fuck you're dumb. You own all that land. Every American is one of the world's largest landowners with 640 million acres of public land. It's the single most amazing and best thing about your country. You can hunt, fish, hike, rockclimb, camp, graze cattle, extract resources, etc on YOUR land. Compare that to most of Europe where the land is privately owned and controlled, as is the water, as are the fish and animals.
>>79449262
Publicly owned, it's just managed by the federal government (something they have proven to be extremely good at). If you and the other 323 million owners don't like the way it's being managed, hire new managers at the next election.
>>79449338
Alright, my mistake, I don't know much about that land, just thought I would give a more in-def map of it.
>>79449338
>(something they have proven to be extremely good at)

>>79449657
Does Canada have their own National Park type system ?
>>79449492
They already charge 30 times less for grazing rights than the average state land trust charges. It's cheap as hell. The land is also used by people who aren't ranchers and may be negatively effected by ranching, that's why there is a small cost to offset the damages.
>be deer, antelope, or elk hunter
>you and your kind already pay 90%+ of public land conservation and access money
>ranchers want their cows yo destroy habitat and increase risk of CWD transmission
>okay, just pay a tiny amount compared to the state costs to help the water, land, and wildlife
>ranchers and /int/ards complain
>>79449748
Yes we have national parks and Crown land, but it's not as good as your system

I understand the issue and I actually commiserate with the ranchers. I know tgat their profit margins are small and that they have used these lands for generations. Don't attack the based public land system though. Like I said earlier, if you don't like the management hire new managers at the next election.
>>79450142
Because I'm an avid hunter and fan of North American history and public land is a very important and very contentious issue. Your President Teddy Roosevelt said it best:
>"Defenders of the short-sighted men who in their greed and selfishness will, if permitted, rob our country of half its charm by their reckless extermination of all useful and beautiful wild things sometimes seek to champion them by saying the 'the game belongs to the people.' So it does; and not merely to the people now alive, but to the unborn people. The 'greatest good for the greatest number' applies to the number within the womb of time, compared to which those now alive form but an insignificant fraction. Our duty to the whole, including the unborn generations, bids us restrain an unprincipled present-day minority from wasting the heritage of these unborn generations. The movement for the conservation of wild life and the larger movement for the conservation of all our natural resources are essentially democratic in spirit, purpose, and method."

Alright, so I would recommend you listen to The History of Rome podcast, they're all free to listen to and are a gold mine, here's episode one to start you off (http://thehistoryofrome.typepad.com/the_history_of_rome/2007/07/1-in-the-beginning-.html).
Also, watch HBO's Rome, great show that I would recommend to anyone interested in Rome.
Now for books, pretty much read some of pic related, and if you go back to the History of Rome podcast page, you'll find a recommended readings page, there are some good books there that I as well as many other would consider essential. A bit of a warning though, don't read anything by most ancient historians, especially Gibbon, they have their biases and don't really know much about Rome itself, it's better to go to modern historians for that one.
If you are really interested in the Roman lifestyle, you might as well learn about Roman wars and battles, for that is what they are most known for, I recommend the YouTube channel Historia Civilis, an amazing channel that goes in-def on Roman battles and tactics.
And that's pretty much it, other than that, lurk /his/ and /lit/ for more information and recommendations.

Well to be fair to the ranchers I'm sure there was the usual government bullshit associated with it. There's probably only like 5 permits a year on a first come first serve basis but the only way to apply for the permit is to go to some horrible buggy bullshit website that constantly sends you to 404 dead end links and crashes halfway thru your application 5 times and when you finally finish you get to wait 8-12 weeks for an answer in the mail. Doing business with the government is like pulling teeth and I don't think they would take over a federal installation and risk prison time if they didn't have some kind of rational grievance. But what do I know I've never been past the Mississippi let alone on a ranch.

It is typical of a leaf. Whereas you are the land of the free and home of the brave, we are the land of peace, order, and good government. We tend to trust our government whilst most Americans see it a a necessary evil only.
That being said, you really do have a remarkable treasure in the form of public lands, the states will sell it off and it will be lost. I understand, especially in /dixie/, the importance of state's rights, and the distrust of the federal government, but even a broken clock is right twice a day and federal public land management is one of the few things they consistently get right.

>>79454185
>they haven't done bad at public land management
it doesn't matter. it's unconstitutional
giving them any amount of power at all is tantamount to suicide
>>79454193
I don't necessarily disagree with you, just on the issue of public land management. I believe it has value outside of its financial potential. The states disagree and sometimes are even forced to according to their constitutions. The federal government may be evil but they are good at managing public lands compared to the alternative. If you can see so clearly what they are bad at why can't you see the occasional thing they do right?
>>79454310
>how best can I trick some qt virgin into sleeping with me?
why are you asking that on 4chan lol
>>79454355
Ah yes, over a century of public land management, which has seen positive growth, protection for clean air, land, and water, the return and strengthening of game animals, free access, well below market price fir resource extraction and grazing, etc, is exactly the same as killing yourself, because even a bad guy is incapable of ever doing anything right.
>>79454366
i see your point i simply disagree with you
at the end of the day i think its more important for that power to remain in the hands of the states than for it to be handled through a federalized program
OwO
>>79454512
If they could rewrite their constitutions and/or set a reasonable and ironclad plan in place that would protect the lands following transfer I would completely agree. Crown Lands (public) here are provincially managed and it works well. Until that happens though it's best not to risk such a valuable resource.

The Constitution is purposely written in very blunt terms which even the most illiterate of the laymen should be able to understand. The government does not have the right to put forth its own interpretation of it as it has for 200 years.
>>79454966
>Got to impress those 250 year old dead guys

>>79455219
That's why I mentioned history earlier. It wasn't a Trudeauesque "right side of history" comment, it was based on the fact that states have almost always sold their public lands off and in some cases are even constitutionally required to do so if their budget is in the red (which they often are). Judging by historic precedent you stand to lose millions of acres. That's land you can hunt on, fish on, hike, camp, birdwatch, photograph, enjoy, graze cattle, extract minerals and lumber from (for comically low prices), etc. If the state's take over and do what they have always done, then it's gone and you will need permission to even step foot on it. But hey, according to some on /int/ that will somehow make Jefferson and Washington happy in Heaven so fuck it.
>>79454295

Americans are the only people willing to throw out 640 million acres of God's country and turn it over to corporations for their interpretation of a centuries old document that has been altered for reasons as frivolous as liquor.
This from a country that threw out a government system that was broken because of its stagnant nature
This from the region that fought against the USA

I don't think the Constitution is bad, I think the founders were an amazing collection of genius in one place at one time. They were smart enough to do what a lot itt can't; create a system and a document that is adaptable and foster a national tradition of an educated populace.
If this were 1774 the people in this thread would be screaming "the monarchy is divine," "just cause it's old doesn't make it bad," "things shouldn't change from the way they were 250 years ago," "let King George and his friends have all the land."
