Australia was populated by Aboriginals for tens of thousands of years -- they are the most distantly related group to Africans which means that they were one of the first peoples to leave the continent. The Aboriginals did things like farm eels in the Southeast and trade sea cucumbers with Makassans in the North. The Aboriginals are related to the Papuans of PNG and both have Denisovan DNA but some of them in Northern territory seem to have Eastern Indian DNA for unknown reasons.The Dutch were the first Europeans to end up in Australia because a lot of them got lost trying to find Indonesia or accidentally had their ships pushed onto the West coast of Australia by strong winds. Some of them remained stranded on Australia and ended up marrying into Aboriginal tribes which is why some Aboriginals from the West had blond hair.

The English sent out James Cook to navigate the eastern coastline of Australia and claim the territory for Britain. They turned Australia into a penal colony to dump thousands of convicts who ended up becoming the first European settlers there. The Europeans had numerous scuffles with the Aboriginal peoples which would ultimately culminate in "racial whitening". Breeding out the Aboriginal people with whites to effectively erase their independent identities. Australia was first settled as one colony, New South Wales, but this eventually branched out into six. These six, after settling some minor border problems, became Australia's six states, although the Northern Territory was part of South Australia. The six colonies became the six states during Federation on January 1, 1901, forming a unified government, but each of the states still retain a local culture which is still distinctive today, although somewhat less than earlier in history, thanks to a blending of them all as well as Americanisation. New Zealand also almost became an Australian state.
