it was no better in 91. they spent maybe a year trying to teach it and after that it was just "fuck it, print it". i can sign my name only through rote memory, any letters not in my full name i'd probably struggle to remember how to write and even then only at a kid's level

Because calligraphy is considered a meme, usually had computers to write most essays/assignments on by the time we were in late middle school and high school. Most people my age, their handwriting is dogshit. I use handwriting so little that when i do have to use it, i sometimes have to pause for a second and not remember how to do it but think about it. I doubt i could really improve my writing at 22, it is awful looking and many bad habits.

Similar-ish situation, missed out on grades 2-6. Basically got put in a room with other kids for 8 hours a day doing nothing because i had a "learning disability". Then dropped right into normal mainstream classes from 6 to 12 with a pretty critical 4 year gap.
