Just the floods we get every year or two. Remember donegal last month?
Worst I remember was storm darwin in 2014. That was crazy. Ripped roof's of buildings and stuff.
But all in all it wasn't that bad. We get extremely strong winds every winter.
If I remember correctly we're the windiest place on the planet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB1EG_BH6Fg
http://carlowweather.com/blog/the-great-storm-of-february-12th-2014/

>Winds peaked in Kilkenny with KilkennyWeather.com recording 133.0 km/h at 2:57pm from WSW, bringing down hundreds of trees in the area and Kilkenny County Council declared a state of emergency as all major roads were blocked.

That's more because so much of our media is based in Dublin and have very little knowledge of or connection to most areas of the country where wind or flooding damage tends to occur. If something like that happened in Dublin city they'd be making documentaries about it and labeling themselves survivors.

To be fair, all the ones that were available were the sort of 'quirky' backpackers hostels that I've stayed in lots of times around Europe, I don't think they're the sort where homeless people go (especially at those prices). Most I've ever paid before is £20 though, and usually it's more like £10.

I'm used to giant slums, I live in London. I'm guessing Dublin isn't that bad (yet)?

Not to be sexist, but the passing in the Camogie final was fucking dire. Stick-work was good, but the gulf between the senior men and women is massive.

I'd rather stay in a hotel any day but you save so much money with hostels.
Worst things about hostels are when people try to talk to you.
>>
>>79329858
When I said slept in her bed until I was 8 I meant when I occasionally woke up during the night and was agitated and restless so I'd go in to bother her.

>and was agitated and restless so I'd go in to bother her.

>>
>>79329795
It depends on the quality of the hostel really. In lots of eastern European ones they were full of really friendly people, lots of free activities, and the beds were quite nice and at least semi-private - all for about £10 per night. Far better than paying £50 per night minimum for some bullshit generic hotel where you can't meet anyone. However, in places like Amsterdam I've paid £20 a night for an old uncomfortable bed in a packed and smelly room, which isn't great. Either way though, if you make sure that the hostel is literally just somewhere you sleep and spend the rest of your time seeing the sights and going to bars/clubs in the evenings, then it doesn't matter too much.
>>
>>79329970

>>
>>79330066
True, it does rely on being at least a little bit social. If you're someone who struggles to start conversations with people (which I am) then hostels can be shit, but luckily I've always travelled with mates who are better at that than me, and before you know it you've got a nice big group of drinking buddies for the evening from all around the world. Can be fun, if that's what you're in to, and it's also nice and cheap.

Yes. The gearbox felt loose, the suspension was too soft, and the steering wheel didn't feel like it was connected to the wheels at all. The only compliment I can give it was that the pedals were good and the engine responsive (albeit a tad sluggish).

>and they stick to the road when you want to have a bit of fun

Would you prefer a car that cant take a corner or handle on a track and slide all over the place? If you're into drifting or oversteering and burning the shite out of the tires thats fine, it doesn't mean you're wrong, there are different styles of driving you know.

They were ill judged but he apologised and admitted as such. Old men tend to get leeway on the subject since they were raised with the value of a good woman being a modest woman.

A 19 year old was raped after hooking up with a guy in a bar. The rape occurred from a different man after the initial hook up in the same room, sounded like he was trying to share her around.
George in his infinite wisdom took the path of blaming the victim for choosing to sleep with somebody she had just met rather than focusing on the crimes of the rapist.

She was passed around, went the story. And apparently she went to bed with one guy and he goes out and another guy comes in. She doesn’t want to have relations with the second guy but he forced himself upon her. Awful.

But when you then look deeper into the story you have to ask certain questions. Why does a girl who just meets a fella in a bar go back to a hotel room? She’s only just barely met him. She has no idea of his health conditions, she has no idea who he is, she has no idea what dangers he might pose.

But modern day social activity means that she goes back with him. Then is surprised when somebody else comes into the room and rapes her. Should she be raped? Course she shouldn’t. Is she entitled to say no? Absolutely. Is the guy who came in a scumbag? Certainly. Should he go to jail? Of Course. All of those things.

He went on to ask: “But is there no blame now to the person who puts themselves in danger?”

The presenter continued:
There is personal responsibility because it’s your daughter and it’s my daughter. And what determines the daughter who goes out, gets drunk, passes out and is with strangers in her room and the daughter that goes out, stays halfway sober and comes home, I don’t know. I wish I knew. I wish I knew what the secret of parenting is.
But there is a point of responsibility. The real issues nowadays and increasingly is the question of the personal responsibility that young girls are taking for their own safety.

I think his general point or perspective on the subject about an increase in promiscuity leading to incautious behaviour, that could lead to situations like this was very poorly judged. Using rape as an example or consequence for greater promiscuity is just mind boggling and the backlash he received is understandable. I don't disagree suggesting people should be more careful is wrong, just that's not the way to make your point.

>Does /éire/ want children?
I've been coming round to the idea lately and think maybe I would. I've had some experience with my niece and believe it'd be fine outside of the struggle of the early few years. In terms of why, I think it'd give me greater motivation to endure the mundane tasks of life knowing that they're all for someone other than myself and it would make my parents happy as well.
Of course finding someone to make that possible with is the tricky part.

What about you?

That's usually down to being poorly raised as a cause for that so I suppose it's something you'd work towards preventing, unless they have ADHD or something. It'd make my life very difficult if they were but I suppose that's the risk you take with commitment.

I'd sort of like to have a few kids but the thought that I'd be responsible for someone else's well being and tutelage terrifies me and it seems really stressful. I think I'd be a mediocre parent and I'm not responsible or well grounded at all, I'd probably fail as a parent and I don't think I could ever find a partner, let alone a suitable one, so it's wholly unrealistic to think I would even be in a situation to ever have them. If I ever am it's a long long ways off.

I have/had dreams and ambitions. I have a good life. I've achieved most of my dreams but I still have a lot more and many of them are well achievable, I know I will achieve them too. But even still I'm not happy with anything. I'm a constant mental wreck and there's no way to fix myself. Maybe its best to be "rudderless" (weirdest word I've heard in a while) if that keeps you happy, but I don't think it keeps YOU yourself happy does it?
What are you doing with your life anyway? Who are you? I'm presuming you're poi or something.

People get the impression that if they aren't the best or the standard, the norm, they aren't worth expending even their own effort on bettering.
A change in worldview would do good, like centring your mind on yourself, judging the world by your standards and not vice versa, and viewing your struggle as spiritually envigorating (not even necessarily in a religious sense - just view yourself as having a soul rather than being a chemical reaction).
