People from both Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota speak with an accent that sounds more Canadian than General American. Lots of exagerated vowels and Canadian-raising in these states. as for why, not quite sure. Proximity perhaps? Many people from these states have Canadian family members.

Prairie states are pretty similar to Dakotans desu. The Canadian accent we are all familiar with is from Ontario, but it does get much thicker in rural areas.
