Long road trip(over a week) is popular/common in your country?

Pretty popular. It's one of the most typical American vacations.
Sometimes my friends and I do road trips abroad, as well. We recently did a trip through Aomori and part of Akita that lasted about a week.

Can ordinary americans receive over a week of vacation?
you can drive across the country in 3-4 hours so no

It depends on your level of experience and the industry you work in.
Most younger white-collar workers get 2 weeks yearly leave, but in the technology industry, you can often take over a month off a year.

why can only technology industry give so long vacation?

There are some other industries like that too. It's just that the demand for workers in the tech industry is really high right now, so they have to offer good benefits for their employees.

I plan to take a road trip to the Redwood forest, Mount St Helen's, and Yosemite Park over christmas break. I only have one week of vacation a year. The company I work at is low-staffed. Sad times.
Some people do it, I wouldn't recommend it because of obvious security issues.
