There's no evidence Britain was ever going to intervene in the Civil War, let alone on the side of the South. I've no idea where Americans get this entire idea from. Britain had been a staunch abolitionist country for almost a hundred years by the time of the ACW, tens of thousands of British people volunteered and served in the Union Army. I'm convinced all this nonsense is because of those stupid raiders.
