Why do Americans never talk about having English or Welsh heritage?

They do when they talk about the Puritans who came here. Or when they want to talk about how they can trace their family to the original 13 colonies. That said it's rather indirect.

Because I'm not english or welsh.
cos it's boring and not exotic
I'm entirely English aside from my mother's paternal grandfather's family (Scottish). I never talk about it though because it isn't anything to be proud of.

Because we are a proud Irish nation
We're ashamed of it

The majority of white Americans acknowledge their part in the colonization and exploitation of the americas coupled with institutionalized, global white supremacy and as a result do everything they can to separate themselves from that identity.

Generally because a lot of the English heritage folk have been here longer than Irish and other heritage, so they just generally identify as American.
While someone with grandparents born overseas would probably be more of a heritagefag.
