Bioware, a video game company, started pushing what was perceived as "SJW shit" circa 2010. /v/, then one of the largest and most active boards, had multiple daily 300+ reply threads focused on game-related e-celebs saying things that made them angry. Video games themselves were discussed less and less. It was GamerGate a few years before GamerGate. A massive influx of off-site culture warriors, mostly from reddit, joined in. With time the culture war itself grew to dominate everything else and the game-related genesis has been forgotten. Most of the people who joined after the beginning are the red pill crowd.
