Before his massacre he stated that he felt unsattisfied by his tour in Europe, because "He felt cheated out of his chance to kill Germans." After he returned home he is quote as saying "Someday I will get my Germans; I will get my turn."
On the night of the massacre he was in a guard tower, where he opened up with a machine gun on some tents, he fired roughly 250 rounds, and when he ran out of ammo he's said to have said "Get some more Ammo! I'm not done yet!"
After he had been arrested when he was being interrogated his is stated as saying that he was not sorry, and the Colonel who was in charge of him said that he did it because "He just didn't like Germans."
