Georgaphy and Russia. But seriously, not ALL slavic countries are that bad. Czechia, Poland, Sloakia and especialy Slovenia are doing fine if not bothered by the hords from east. Although it all may not look so great if you compare it to Australia that is one of the wealthiest contries on Earth.

Many centuries ago we tried uniting the slavic peoples under one faith and language so we could build the next Rome as an extension of what Byzantium started, but this Svyatoslav guy from Kievan Rus thought his family was to be the legitimate ruling class of this panslavic geopolitical project rather than Bulgars. So he went to war. He tried to conquer it all but ended up dividing us into these artificial terms like west or east or yugoslav.
