How are municipal employees/civil servants/city workers viewed where you live?
It's pretty well sought after here because it's a stable, honest well benefited career that's usually pretty hard to get into. You had to be a model citizen with years of prior experience to even apply. Also usually pretty well funded and equipped by the taxpayer.
Problem is nowadays, the younger generation is more interested in computer science and whatnot instead of learning a craft.
So the city (Of Los Angeles at least) is beginning to distribute flyers encouraging ex convicts/gang members, etc. to apply.
It's pretty crazy.
