Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but if anybody can help, I would be grateful.

I study Japanese, but I also study kanji/hanzi etymology. I stumbled onto a kanji 奭, which is no longer used in Japanese. I am told it is pronounced as "shì" in pinyin.

Dictionary says it means red, anger, ire or old Chinese surname. I've also heard it being referred to as 'majestic red' or great/royal red. Does anybody know what kind of words this hanzi is used in and in what context?
