Friendly reminder that the SINGLE most important distinction between Canadians and Americans is that Canadians remained loyal and devoted to our God-given crown and refused the traitors' temptations

this
it's fucking badass

Forgot to mention, God also condemned Canada to forever be irrelevant after burning the White House

Friendly reminder that we could have conquered Canada right after the Civil War when we had a huge, battle-hardened army and the British were terrified that we'd go and do it, but we didn't.

We won the war despite Canadian shrieks to the contrary.

Do Canadians unironically get national pride from this irrelevant war?

Mate if you really want to get into specifics America won the War of 1812.

The only goal of America in that war was to stop the British from forcing our merchants into service in THEIR Navy.
And we accomplished that

Invading Canada was just a side effect of the war. We didn't even send the regular army into Canada it was just a bunch of local militias.
>>
>>78774200
The objective of the war was to stop British impressment of American sailors, also Canada was butthurt that we agreed with London to demilitarize the border since it left you exposed to future invasion.

Canada would have fallen easily if we'd concentrated all of our troops and seized the main road to Quebec City which would cut off the interior from the outside world and starved them out. They instead launched a three pronged invasion that could not possibly work.
>>
>>78774189
>Do Canadians unironically get national pride from this irrelevant war?
They do. They had a huge celebration in 2012 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the war.

>(who were still legally british subjects)
You're joking, right?

>the entire time the usa is fueling the war with france
We were also trading with the U.K., I guess trading is bad?

>this justifies a conniving plot to annex canada
Like I said it was a side effect. We had no interest in Canada, we just wanted to prove we weren't to be messed with.
>>
The war basically birthed both American and Canadian nationalism.
>>
Honestly one of the best things to happen to the country.

-Lost no territory.

-British blockade forced a domestic market to develop, less reliance on importing everything from the British and Europe.

-The issue of impressment ceased to be an issue once Napoleon was defeated.

-Attained favorable land deals with the Brits, who stopped supporting the Indians against us.

-Cucked Canada out of land.

-Realized having an army and navy was not only practical, but necessary. The early United States was against having a large standing army, even more so a navy.

what do you mean?
What does the Alaska Purchase and the War of 1812 have in common?
>>
>>78775252
The war of 1812 helped to confirm our independence from Britain which would give the Russians reason to believe that we could effectively defend the territory. The War also got the British to finally leave their frontier forts in the old west which was the last real block to unchecked American expansion to the Pacific.
>>
>>78775001
Why is it even in dispute? Did the Russians not know where their boundries were?

Since its rightfully Canadian clay, you should give it back. We'll come up with the $7.2m.

Russians tried to defeat us and failed, but then their weather stepped in ;_;

We were press ganging American sailors for the banter of it, and the yanks got pissy and took their anger out on Canada who did nothing wrong. So us and the Canucks brutally parred the yanks, sent their shitty little president literally running away. Our glorious officers marched into the White House, had a glass of the president's finest wine, then burnt the fucker to the ground. The yanks signed the Treaty of Ghent ending the war but before the news reached New Orleans a bunch of British soldiers got defeated in battle by the yank garrison. Despite the fact that the war had already legally ended, yanks think they won the war (although their capital got burnt to the ground and they failed to gain any territory) because of this battle.

After the war, there was an increased desire to create a distinct American culture and do away with British cultural influences. The European powers finally accepted the United States as a real country instead of a bunch of renegade British colonies.

It also spelled the end of the Federalist Party, who had been lambasted as traitors for their pro-British stance (although ironically Federalist stronghold Massachusetts contributed more volunteers to the US war effort than Virginia). The inability to purchase goods from Europe also stimulated home-grown US manufacturing, although as soon as European products flooded back in following the end of the war, there was a serious economic depression.
>>
>>78775302
>The War also got the British to finally leave their frontier forts in the old west which was the last real block to unchecked American expansion to the Pacific
I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who said that it was inevitable that we would reach the Pacific.
>>
>>78774505
The US had almost 2 million men of military age in 1812 but somehow it was never possible to get more than 7000 of them onto a battlefield at once.
>>
why do you call skirmishes "war"
>>
>>78777182
It wasn't much of a war compared to what was happening in Europe at the time.

We did not have the infrastructure for a large scale armed conflict back then. The Mexican War was the first conflict where the US Army had matured sufficiently to engage in a successful campaign on hostile soil.
>>
>>78776304
You forgot that we humiliated the Royal Navy, which had not lost an engagement in almost a century and wouldn't again until WWI.
>>
>>78778118
Correct. It didn't exist for another half century.

>>
USA was part of UK
>>
>>78779912
It was so much fun we did it again 85 years later.
>>
>>78780268

Tbh it was kind of justified that time though, since Spain was allowing British naval and land forces operate/supply from Spanish forts along the Gulf coast to operate against the americans.
>>
It was either a draw or a british win depending on who you ask. Only retards think the USA won though.
>>
>>78780353
American history texts throughout the 19th century always painted it as a US win, only since the 20th century have historians generally come to regard it as a stalemate.
>>
>>78780406
A stalemate is a loss for the aggressor.
>>
>>78779261
You forgot you still ultimately lost the naval battle.

More ships lost/captured.
Blockade remained intact.
>>
>>78780406
From middle school to high school it was that "USA show the world that it can compete with the British who has the best military at the time" for me.
>>
>>78780353

it was a positive for the nation, it showed that it could reckon with British power, and it continued to forge and galvanize the people behind one banner as the nation developed
>>
>>78781428
Plus the real beginning of an American national identity.
