In some municipalities they have British English as the standard, mostly in the southern states (Londrina being an obvious example). In Uruguay they also have the British English as the standard in schools afaik.

I'm from RS but where I live American English is more common. I taught myself Scottish English because it sounds ridiculously pleasant to hear and fits my native accent like a glove. Pure autism though as most people can barely understand it, so I eventually have to switch to American English when actually talking to people [who aren't familiar with British dialects].

at least for me it doesn't sounds fancier, in the contrary it sounds more primitive. Just ask any frenchman he will tell you the same. The way they use french words and verbs is very poor.
