probably not. Both compete against each other for influence in Eurasia. Russia needs large buffer zones to protect it, and also needs to control Eurasian energy policy to have leverage as an energy exporter. China still feels some resentment for the Century of Humiliation (Vladivostok, one of Russia's most important Pacific ports used to be a Chinese city).

The most China can hope for is that Russia partners with them in opposition to the US/The West on some key issues. Russia and China can be tactical partners in some areas of overlapping interest, but they cannot be long-term strategic allies.

Maybe russians don't want to be near China, and Chinese want to be near Russia?

It is no different than in the 70s-80s when we had a temporary partnership with China in the interest of containing the Soviet Union, but it couldn't last with the end of the Cold War since we simply could not reconcile our ideological and strategic differences.

Russia had the opportunity to wipe out China, during the Zhenbao Island conflict in 1969. Chinese soldiers shot at and killed Soviet soldiers. But the Soviets didn't act. They could have. China could be a smoking ruin. The Soviets sent KGB agents to talk to US State Department diplomats, asking about what their response would be to the USSR attacking China. The diplomats in question informed the Soviets that this wasn't acceptable, and Nixon moved to open relations with China to prevent the Soviets from acting.

America saved China. So all of you who hate China, we're to blame. If it wasn't for us, China would have a population of about 400 million instead of 1.3 billion, and it would be a fucking basketcase.

Moscow were running scared of China back then, they perceived them as a country of fanatics who would not only start World War III, but had an almost endless supply of bodies (kill 100 million Chinese and it would hardly dent their population). China were running scared because they couldn't match the USSR for military capabilities and the Brezhnev Doctrine declared that the Soviets had the right to intervene in any country they saw as deviating from the correct path of socialism.

Vladivostok was founded by the Russian Empire, there was nothing there before. The tsar did cleave off parts of eastern Manchuria, although it was just a wilderness that nobody lived in. However, Russia was an active participant alongside the European powers and Japan in the Century of Humiliation, and China hasn't entirely forgotten it.

Mao Zedong once said "The Soviet Union was built on the back of tsarist imperialism, they were not a downtrodden, oppressed victim of imperialism as we were."

It was borderline bizarre in a way. After Nixon visited China in early 1972, a kind of Chinamania swept the American media for a while, Time and Newsweek covers were talking of Mao Zedong as one of the century's great men when a year earlier, he'd just been seen as another bloodstained communist tyrant. Never mind that Cultural Revolution-era China was a worse and more oppressive place than Brezhnev's Soviet Union or that Beijing had been supplying weapons and logistical support to North Vietnam. Instead, the "new" image of China being shown in the media was of an almost charming land of little guys in blue jackets riding around on bicycles.
