Also, all these pictures are US soldiers next to nordics or Some north European/baltic nations. Which are taller than the rest of the world.

Another thing is that it's usually some ethnic or non-white soldier versus some white european.
When whites just tend to be taller. While white americans are still shorter, it's really not that much. Maybe an inch or so with respect to germans or eastern europeans.
