>>
The right-wing in Latin America needs a popular basis where it can draw long-term support and militancy, instead of relying on the charisma of sporadic leaders and disappointment with failed socialist policies.

Without that commies will always come back to power.

I can't speak much for other countries, but at least regarding Brazil, there are three main basis of support for right-wing policies. The evangelical Christians, the rural landowners, the military police officers and soldiers. The urban middle and upper-middle classes used to be the traditional basis for right-wing parties, but they are increasingly progressive and socialist thanks to all university indoctrination.

Of all these, the evangelical Christians are the most interesting ones. Since they are the most numerous. Unfortunately, most of the Brazilian right-wing activists is very prejudiced against evangelicals and they are more worried about trying to convince the secular, socialist intelligentsia of the universities about the wonders of the free-market.

Colombia is just like the rest of South America, only more backwards, so processes that have begun earlier in the Southern Cone and have reached its full results, such as guerrilla leaders being elected into Presidency, have begun only now in Colombia.

I'm sure that within 30 years you will have FARC in power and it will be worse than present day Venezuela.

The only South American country that I see with good long-term prospects is Peru.

Doria and Bolsonaro are exactly what I'm talking about when I say the right-wing can't just rely on charismatic leaders.

Let's say they win and implement free-market policies. How will they survive the wave of protest and contestation mobilized by left-wing activists? How will they survive the strikes, the marches, the articles published in journals and websites, the complaints of intellectuals and artists?

They would only be able to survive if they had a basis on their side, without that they are nothing. Look at the problem Macri is having in Argentina. He has been elected but can't implement his policies because the Peronists still hold the power in the streets thanks to their immense capacity for mass mobilization.

I know it's from the university. That's the point. Universities being dominated by the far-left is just the first step, from there they extend their control over the media newsrooms and the artistic class and then, suddenly, the country you knew as conservative is voting for former communist guerrillas.

That's how it happened in Brazil, at least.

While this is certainly true for the Weathermen or the Symbionese Liberation Army, I'd say the Black Panthers had a more popular origin and support base, which also made it more dangerous.

The last thing America needed during the 60s and 70s was a Maoist party in control of its black ghettos. J. Edgar Hoover did nothing wrong.

Or, well, Richard Nixon because he kicked the asses of all those leftist groups (who were funded by the KGB, I will note). Even though Nixon wasn't much of a conservative policy-wise (he was a social democrat more than anything), he was turned into Enemy Numero Uno by the left because he stopped them from throwing rocks at police and trying to firebomb government buildings.

It's hypocrisy because rich blacks claim to be part of the struggle, care about their fellow blacks, whatever, but they marry whites, move to white neighborhoods, and don't associate with blacks who aren't rich. They claim high black crime levels are down to institutional racism, complain that blacks aren't as violent as they're portrayed in statistics, but if that's the case, why not just move to a black neighborhood? What are they afraid of?

It's irritating to see my dad complain about white privilege in his upper-class white neighborhood.

yes, Chile already does pretty much all of those 3 things

La socia-democracia se fundamenta en un estado que busca el bien estar social en conjunto a una economia de libre mercado o sea de corte capitalista, lo mismo con el socioliberalismo y la democracia-cristiana.

Si quieres infor puedes rivar libros como:

Not exactly. That's an incredibly vague definition, maybe Chilean economy classes are different from ours. In the US, the term Social Democracy is very specific, it's a semi-capitalist system with an explicit goal of reaching socialism.

Socialism only kind of """works""" when commodity prices are high and population growth is under control. Most wannabe soicalist countries put scandinavia as an example, but in reality scandinavia went through a hardcore capitalism period that helped most people become wealthy af.
