In a few words, it's still very strong and I'm quite sure it will stay so, the language itself is quite unique and much different from both English and Russian

I mean all in all you need Latvian to function in the society, only in Russian majority cities and areas with many Russians (that don't speak anything but Russian) you can really get by without Latvian

Also we have a very strong sense of preserving anything associating with our culture, I'm very sure it is under no threat, and the actual part of Russian diaspora that doesn't want to learn Latvian is dwindling, most youth know it and speak it

To end it off - our language has lived through 700 years of total German influence, then Swedish, Polish, Russian, and still preserved itself in big strokes
