And the further you move away from Africa the more languages lose vowels and consonants. Polynesian languages for examples barely have like 5 of each. Not "way more complex", just different. Like, Italian and Latin are phonetically speaking -- quite similar, but the grammar of the two languages is different, and instead of saying Italian grammar "evolved" like most ppl do, I'd say that ancient Latin grammar made much more sense to me than modern Italian does.
