Argentina had a very tiny population in 1800, like 400.000 people, It was also a half the size, with much of the territory in native land.
We had some blacks, but few, and they didnt work in plantations, they were like maids if slaves (house servants), or normal workers if free, which back then would be something like cattle rancher, or some city worker, like waterboy.
Argentina had many wars and civil wars in the 1800s, black men were very over represented among soldiers, many of them died, and their women got bleached generation after generation by European immigrants.
Also, one time there was yellow fever in Buenos Aires, rich people moved to the countryside for some months and left their black employees to protect their properties in Buenos Aires, that yellow fever pandemic killed many of the blacks.

But even then we still have a small (<2000) population of native black people. Nevertheless we are getting a lot of african immigrants.
