We bring you savages civilisation and this is what we get? The empire was a mistake, we should have exploited you for nothing in return, that's what all the other continentals did.

George Mikes was a Hungarian journalist who traveled to England in 1939 but got stuck there due to the war, and eventually married an Englishwoman and got naturalised. He wrote a book on the English to basically air his frustrations with them in the late 40s, "How to be an alien", and to his surprise it instantly became a best-seller.
There's also another book literally called "The English, are they human?" written by a Dutch immigrant in 1929 but I can't find it back for now.

apparently it even got translated into German
here's some more

Here's the intro of a later book, where he describes how it all went. When he vented his frustrations in 1948, to his surprise the English all bought his book and said things like "yes, were are quite silly, aren't we?". Ultimately it led to him becoming more English, while due to the times the English became less English (starting from the fall of the Empire to what you see now). It is written tongue-in-cheek of course.

He has a certain witty style of humour I really like.
I forgot to add: in his original book from 1948 there was a chapter on 'Sex'. It was just one sentence:
"On the Continent people have sex lives, the English have hot water bottles."

As a side-note here, one of the best, most talented classic British movie actors ever, Peter Cushing, had an uncle that didn't speak to him anymore because he didn't approve of his chosen profession.
