Is french language really spoken in Aosta Valley or is it just dying language known by some elder people?

Our constitution memed them into being a technically French-speaking minority, so when they boomed with tourism they started doing signs and education in both languages and being granted extra money for it because MUH MINORITY
Vast majority only knows Italian well, although French is actually spoken here and there
In the northernmost valleys elders still speak the original dialect better than Italian but that's it

It is still regarded as part of their identity (Parties have french names and shit), but it has been pretty much italianised. A good chunk of them can speak Arpitan and French though.
For sure, it's far from being like Südtirol, where it is like living in Austria but with different documents.
