Manual is superior for control of your vehicle. Starting on ice, downhill, or just control of your vehicle.

Torque converters still sap power and performance cars use computer controlled double clutches so they're closer to manuals than automatics in that regard.
Automatics these days are more fuel efficient in all scenarios because they have so many gears and perfect shift points and times compared to people.

I drove an automatic for a week.
I couldn't stand it, whenever you press on the gas, you have to wait for the car to change the gears, and when driving, it changes them too early for my tastes. I don't care about MPGs, I just want to get to the destination faster.
I want to be in the control of the car. The less control I have, the less I like the car.

Yeah that seems to be the main problem. It's pretty easy to remember the pattern you need to use on a gear stick to switch gears, but for some reason people really struggle with the clutch.

I think the problem isn't pressing it at all, it's pressing it at the right time and the right speed. Every transmission has a slightly different clutch feel and slip point, and if you release the clutch too quickly or at even slightly the wrong time you can damage the transmission in the long run.

Driving a manual is like walking, it's all muscle memory, there's nothing that gets old or boring about it.
