What do?
Where da cocaine bitches at?
I went there for two weeks with the YMCA. Very shitty, and we went to the worst slums which were scary and cool. Nice people there, living in dirt. The downtown was shit, slums were better imo. Nice bus system.

I don't understand what goes through the mind of first worlders by going to a country and venture into in the worst possible areas. It's as going to France and staying in freaking Calais with the refugees or going to Norway and staying in a refugee camp. Or going to the USA and staying in south side Chicago or Detroit . You're guaranteed to have a not so great experience

It was an "outreach" program, so the whole point was to interact with poor people. It wasn't a bad experience, in fact it was incredibly valuable. I prefer the poor areas to the rich ones anyway. Nicer people and more community.

The fuck? There are more than enough poor people living on the streets, which your government likes to pretend don't exist. Why not visit the actual poverty in your own nation?
Seems odd, to be honest.

not him but yeah it's pretty stupid
rich kids will fly across the world to some third world country for 90% vacation and 10% "work" in slums under the guise of the whole thing being charitable instead of putting in real, long term work in the ghetto down the street with people who speak their language and they can actually help in a tangible way rather than spending thousands on flights and lodging so they can play dress up construction worker or teacher.

Most americans here work as engrish teachers or are simply investors in real estate or retirees though, not freaking social workers
