It would have been good enough if you were in a powerful tank like a KV or Tiger, or in modern times, facing a weak guerrilla enemy like the US tanks have done.

However, modern tanks are useless if air superiority isn't in your side's hands, and I would expect sooner or later that low-flying drone swarms with ATGMs will allow sides with no fighter planes to get some of the advantages of air based ground attack.
Land-based ATGMs and even hand-held missiles are getting more advanced nowadays too, and there's always mines to at least blow the tracks off.

Miss the days when I used to play hours of arma 2 wasteland. I was the best air support operator around. I would park up a supply truck and repair truck miles off the map where nobody would find it, and do regular bombing runs. Depending on the plane I'd fly right up to thousands of foot where no ground troops could really spot me and ground troops would call me in. I'd turn off the engine and silently dive bomb the shit out of towns over and over again. I was so OP. Everyone thought I was hacking.
Never was particularly good with tanks in it, but I've had my fair share of good battles in them.

Eh, the point of tanks isn't to be invulnerable to enemy fire. Tanks are probably even more vulnerable than the state of the art models of WW2 were, since it's easier to hit a Challenger 2 with a Javelin or Spike or RPG 32 than it would have been to get a 128mm Pak 44 in place to hit an IS2, and each of those modern weapons is comparatively disposable, while the anti-tank cannons of WW2 were each investments as large as the guns of tanks themselves.

A tank draws fire, its point is to be too deadly for the enemy to be unable to ignore it, but hard enough to crack for the enemy to have to go out of its way or use expensive, awkward, or heavy weapons to beat. By comparison, infantry are easy to destroy in defensive positions, but not important enough to be targeted outside of where they're located.
Infantry can also use some of the initiative of its leaders and members to survive and/or succeed, but tanks have to rely heavily on the command and control of the formal hierarchy.
So if your enemy is weak, tanks are good, but if they're strong, you might as well take your chances on the ground.

You're also forgetting that the Abrams was designed in the 1970's to fight Russian tanks on the Northern European plain. With the exception of the T-14 which isn't in mass production yet, Russian tank design hasn't evolved much since then either. An Abrams can go toe-to-toe with T-90's, T-80's, and T-72's. As for the effectiveness of modern AT weapons in a large scale conventional war, the matter is up for debate. They are certainly effective in guerrilla warfare, but they have yet to be effectively tested in conventional warfare.

Speculation. Also I experimented with my replying style by not greentexting which part of your post I was responding to. I was bouncing the idea of super-heavy tanks off of your pointing out that the current generation of tanks wasn't designed for guerrilla urban warfare, but for fast warfare, and throwing out my thoughts on how much tanks can be improved to fit that scenario by being made heavier and better protected.
My conclusion was that to make a tank heavy enough to be a true game changer rather than an incremental advantage would cripple the tank's mobility and change its function greatly. Perhaps if the tank was kept within a city for defensive purposes, it would make sense to build it so big that it could only be relocated by train. Modularity is probably the best feature to build into a tank design in the current "meta".
