what the hell kind of acid can you throw in a person's face and have it burn this badly that fast? Even sticking your hand in concentrated nitric acid doesn't do that unless you leave it in there for a good long while.

I think they use sulfuric acid. As for how much it burns, it depends on how concentrated the solution is.

That could possibly explain some of it, sulfuric acid tends to release a lot of heat when reacting with things.It still takes a while though and is pretty easily washed off before any serious damage can be done. The only exception being the eyes, it really likes water.

Probably so. Hydrofluoric does pretty horrific shit, including severe bone damage because of the affinity for calcium, but I guess you already know that and that's why you suggested it. That said, though, I don't know where a normal person would get it.
