Half the time, if you really want to know
the truth, when I’m horsing around with a girl, I have a helluva lot of trouble just finding what I’m looking for, for God’s sake, if you know what I mean. Take this girl that I just missed having sexual intercourse with, that I told you about. It took me about an hour to just get her goddam brassiere off. By the time I did get it off, she was about ready to spit in my eye.

I like almost anybody in the Bible better than the Disciples. If you want to know the truth, the guy I like best in the Bible, next to Jesus, was that lunatic and all, that lived in the tombs and kept cutting himself with stones. I like him ten times as much as the Disciples, that poor bastard. I used to get in quite a few arguments about it, when I was at Whooton School, with this boy that lived down the corridor, Arthur Childs. Old Childs was a Quaker and all, and he read the Bible all the time. He was a very nice kid, and I liked him, but I could never see eye to eye with him on a lot of stuff in the Bible, especially the Disciples. He kept telling me if I didn’t like the Disciples, then I didn’t like Jesus and all. He said that because Jesus picked the Disciples, you were supposed to like them. I said I knew He picked them, but that He
picked them at random. I said He didn’t have time to go around analyzing everybody. I said I wasn’t blaming Jesus or anything. It wasn’t His fault that He didn’t have any time. I remember I asked old Childs if he thought Judas, the one that betrayed Jesus and all, went to Hell after he committed suicide. Childs said certainly. That’s exactly where I disagreed with him. I said I’d bet a thousand bucks that Jesus never sent old Judas to Hell. I still would, too, if I had a thousand bucks. I think any one of the Disciples would’ve sent him to Hell and all-and fast, too-but I’ll bet anything Jesus didn’t do it. Old Childs said the trouble with me was that I didn’t go to church or anything. He was right about that, in a way. I don’t.

So many of my problems with the Jedi Order come back to their relationship with the State. The Jedi and the Republic are inextricably wedded. The Republic relies on the Jedi as a relatively cheap law enforcement/ diplomatic corps/ officer corps/ intelligence operation. The Jedi, meanwhile, rely on the Republic for authority, funding, and recruitment. They wield a frightening amount of power within the Republic, yet consistently refuse to actively shape policy except as it serves their immediate interests.

By marrying themselves to the Republic and it’s interests, the Jedi sold out. They sold out the ideals of justice, compassion, and respect for all life in favor of order and protection of the system which sustains them. The Jedi should have been morally opposed to slavery, but, since it was in the economic interests of the Republic, they tacitly condoned it. The Jedi should have supported Separatists in their quest for a more just and equitable galaxy, but instead lead a slave army to oppose them in the Republic’s name.

I hate it when somebody has cheap suitcases. It sounds terrible to say it, but I can even get to hate somebody, just looking at them, if they have cheap suitcases with them. Something happened once. For a while when I was at Elkton Hills, I roomed with this boy, Dick Slagle, that had these very inexpensive suitcases. He used to keep them under the bed, instead of on the rack, so that nobody’d see them standing next to mine. It depressed holy hell out of me, and I kept wanting to throw mine out or something, or even trade with him. Mine came from Mark Cross, and they were genuine cowhide and all that crap, and I guess they cost quite a pretty penny. But it was a funny thing. Here’s what happened. What I did, I finally put my suitcases under my bed, instead of on the rack, so that old Slagle wouldn’t get a goddam inferiority complex about it. But here’s what he did. The day after I put mine under my bed, he took them out and put them back on the rack. The reason he did it, it took me a while to find out, was because he wanted people to think my bags were his. He really did. He was a very funny guy, that way. He was always saying snotty things about them, my suitcases, for instance. He kept saying they were too new and bourgeois. That was his favorite goddam word. He read it somewhere or heard it somewhere. Everything I had was bourgeois as hell. Even my fountain pen was bourgeois. He borrowed it off me all the time, but it was bourgeois anyway. We only roomed together about two months. Then we both asked to be moved. And the funny thing was, I sort of missed him after we moved, because he had a helluva good sense of humor and we had a lot of fun sometimes. I wouldn’t be surprised if he missed me, too. At first he only used to be kidding when he called my stuff bourgeois, and I didn’t give a damn-it was sort of funny, in fact. Then, after a while, you could tell he wasn’t kidding any more.

Inyata Khan, a prince of the Mughal Empire (richest country in the 1700s) dying of opium addiction.

The Mughals were the Muslim rulers of India, and the richest people in the world in the 1700s. Despite being Muslim, the eating of opium, the drinking of brandy, and the smoking of hashish and tobacco were favoured activities of the great Mughal princes and Sultans. Even the Sultan Jahangir died of alcoholism.

Of all their drug addictions though, opium was probably the most deadly. It was harvest natively in North India, and the oligarchs would store them in elaborate snuff boxes. They would take their dose with an opulent spoon, and ingest the opium, experiencing psychoactive visions and bodily numbness. The opium addiction is powerful, and to a regular user it is like a thirsty man in the arid desert. Opium addicts feel like they're dying without it.

This macabre miniature says quite a lot about the nature of the flower of mercy.

I don't think it is. Pizza is usually pretty delicious, and whether a show is animated or not has no bearing on it's value as entertainment or art. Rick and Morty is trash, judging by the one episode I've seen, but having unsophisticated or limited tastes doesn't make someone a bad person.

>The fascination and experimentation with opium occurred partially because of its connections to the oriental tales such as Purchas his Pilgrimage, Travels through Persia, and Memoires du Baron de Tott, sur les Tures et les Tartares, where opium use was exotically featured.[2] During the eighteenth century, opium was primarily imported into Britain from countries such as Persia, Egypt, Smyrna, and the Levant areas.[3] Opium imports in Britain were dominated mostly by Turkey, which accounted for 80-90% of the share brought in during the majority of the nineteenth century.[2] Although most of the opium came from the Orient, attempts were made to grow opium in England as an "agricultural improvement in Britain." [4] For a while, opium was used as a sort of currency concerning trade with China, because while other nations had to pay great amounts of silver for tea, England used its opium trade through India, combined with cotton, as a bargaining chip for imports.[5] As importation increased, many patent opium products appeared and were sold in general stores as well as apothecaries.[6] These patent medicines included things such as Godfrey's Cordial, Dalby's Carminative, McMunn's Elixir, Batley's Sedative Solution, and Mother Bailey's Quieting Syrup.[7] The First Opium War occurred between 1839 and 1842 when Britain realized that opium grown in India could be sold in China for a profit, and their army forced the Emperor to sign a treaty allowing free trade, which had been initially prohibited for opium.[8]

There's actually a city in Turkey named after opium. Afyonkarahisar; meaning Opium Black Fortress. The city was built on the precious poppy.

>Diamorphine was first synthesized in 1874 by C. R. Alder Wright, an English chemist working at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London. He had been experimenting with combining morphine with various acids. He boiled anhydrous morphine alkaloid with acetic anhydride for several hours and produced a more potent, acetylated form of morphine, now called diacetylmorphine or morphine diacetate. The compound was sent to F. M. Pierce of Owens College in Manchester for analysis. [...]

>Wright's invention did not lead to any further developments, and diamorphine became popular only after it was independently re-synthesized 23 years later by another chemist, Felix Hoffmann.[72] Hoffmann, working at Bayer pharmaceutical company in Elberfeld, Germany, was instructed by his supervisor Heinrich Dreser to acetylate morphine with the objective of producing codeine, a constituent of the opium poppy, pharmacologically similar to morphine but less potent and less addictive. Instead, the experiment produced an acetylated form of morphine one and a half to two times more potent than morphine itself. The head of Bayer's research department reputedly coined the drug's new name, "heroin," based on the German heroisch, which means "heroic, strong" (from the ancient Greek word "heros, ήρως"). Bayer scientists were not the first to make heroin, but their scientists discovered ways to make it, and Bayer led commercialization of heroin.[73]

>From 1898 through to 1910, diamorphine was marketed under the trademark name Heroin as a non-addictive morphine substitute and cough suppressant.[74] In the 11th edition of Encyclopædia Britannica (1910), the article on morphine states: "In the cough of phthisis minute doses [of morphine] are of service, but in this particular disease morphine is frequently better replaced by codeine or by heroin, which checks irritable coughs without the narcotism following upon the administration of morphine."

>Hard to credit now, but there was once something paternalistic, almost philanthropic about the Beeb, spreading the cultural wealth of the educated classes through housing estates and comprehensive schools. This kind of evangelism rarely sits well with self-conscious champions of the lumpenproletariat, whose right to live in shit, they believe, outweighs their right to not live in shit – for some, being patronised is worse than being brutalised. But then people can be very naïve about the motivations of those who give the people what they want, relentlessly and remorselessly. And while the Corporation was sometimes guilty of gross assumptions and a very real stuffiness, I don’t like to think how I might have grown up...had it not been for Life On Earth, or Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, or James Burke’s Connections, or the gentle guidance of the BBC Childrens’ department. Years ago, I interviewed the men in charge of “youth programming” at Channel 4, goateed and bereted and utterly insistent that their race to the bottom was a noble crusade; they railed against the BBC’s “eat-your-greens” approach, and spoke of gallons of liquid effluent, coursing through the pipes of British culture, in terms of freedom and some strange colour of egalitarianism. Here was the future, banging its drums, and even then it made me blanch. As controller of BBC2 in the late 1960s, David Attenborough had a different vision, rooted in what was, for all his personal privilege, an (enduring) belief in inclusivity. If the so-called Golden Age of Television could boast its fair share of shoddy, overlit crap and my God, it could at best it was truly empowering, and its passing has screwed us all to some extent...but then this is an age of choices, few of which have much to do with freedom in the long term. No one’s going to stumble onto culture any more, not like I did, or my dragged-up mates did. It’s worse than a shame.

The Swiss alchemist and physician Paracelsus (1493-1541) is often credited as the first to create a tincture of opium. In the 17th century, the English physician Thomas Browne conducted experiments upon the dosage of opium upon various animals.[9] Browne's contemporary, the physician Thomas Sydenham (1624–89) the so-called 'Father of British medicine' declared -

Among the remedies which has pleased the Almighty God to give to man to relieve his sufferings, none is so universal and so efficacious as opium .[10]

In the 1730s Dr. Charles Alston in one of his papers describes the biology or botany of the poppy plant, and the experiments he conducted with it on animals. One section of his paper describes how opium was believed to treat pain, cause sleep, increase perspiration, raise the spirits, and relax the muscles. With these things in mind, it was recommended for pain and any sort of irritation to the nerves or motions of spirits.[11] Opium became a popular "aspirin-like" product of the early nineteenth century. George Crabbe was prescribed opium in 1790 to relieve pain, and he continued to use it for the rest of his life. At the time of George Crabbe's first prescription, the East India Company began hiring Indian Villages to cultivate large quantities of opium.[12] Medicinally, it had been used as a reliable cure since the beginning of the medical field.[13] William Cullen and John Brown, two well-known physicians at the time, claimed it cured things such as typhus, cancer, cholera, rheumatism, smallpox, malaria, venereal disease, hysteria, and gout in the eighteenth century.[14]

However, some individuals recognized the dangers that opium held. Some wrote into newspapers, such as The Times, and emphasized the dangers of giving a child medication such as the “Syrup of Poppies” or other potent medications, which contained an unspecified amount of opium known to be dangerous to give to infants.[15] A deeper medical analysis revealed that opium created and uplifted spirit and happy disposition, which was then followed by symptoms of a very opposite effect which includes the mind “becoming gradually dull and languid, the body averse to motion, little affected by customary impressions, and inclined to sleep.” Following a larger dose, “all these symptoms continue to increase; and tremors, convulsions, vertigo, stupor, insensibility, and deprivation of muscular action appear.” [3] Regardless of the mixed reviews in the public sphere, during the time of increasing imports and the unconcern of doctors (especially demonstrated by certain journals documenting how to cultivate the poppy plant and create opium),[16] there were more hard drugs in England than any time before or any time that followed.[17] Eventually, the drug moved beyond medicinal use as its imaginative powers attracted attention—the descriptions accompanying the effects of opium moved from drowsy effects to those of its power over the imagination and thought process.[18] This was especially true within the circle of Romantic poets, specifically Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Thomas De Quincey, who suffered from addiction to opium.

The wikileak that people tend to fixate on when presenting evidence of pedophilia against Podesta, Alefantis etc., the about kids in a swimming pool, referring to them as "entertainment" is not that sinister at all if you ask me. Parents talk about their kids like that all the time.

The other emails I've seen are much more suspect and definitely seem to be using a code. A lot of people's response to it seems like a cover up too. The way attention was directed to a pizza place, evidence was fabricated and debunked, Milo's talk getting cancelled at the last minute due to a mysterious phone call... It was not assumed that poetry was created during the opium-induced stupor, but that the images that were experienced provided the raw material of the poem, and the poet had to create a surrounding framework to support it. Abrams writes how opium-using poets, "utilized the imagery from these dreams in his literary creations, and sometimes, under the direct inspiration of opium, achieved his best writing." [20] The vividness of the sensory items, the feeling of persecution for eternity, or even the misguided sense of time found within the works of some poets indicates the influences of opium on their dreams and subsequent poems that they built around their dreams. A poet who did not use opium could not gain access to the planet opened solely by the symptoms of using. This unfamiliar realm, known only to users, according to M. H. Abrams, supplied the material for some of the Romantic poet's best writing.[21]

Sort of like what they say about weed these days. Dude weed lmao Pink Floyd. Dude, opium lmao, Coleridge.

don't know why people in the UK care about pizzagate when it's well known that
(a) the government were handed a dossier of known paedophiles in high places in the 80s, but "misplaced" it
(b) SNP councillor willie macrae was murdered for his own investigations
(c) thatcher was doggedly determined to knight saville

>Typical use and dependence within the middle-class were not confined to the literary circle, although the records of famous users are more readily available.[27] It has been proven or suggested through letters and notebooks that George Crabbe, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Thomas de Quincey, Lord Byron, John Keats, and Percy Shelley imbibed on opium, whether for medicinal or recreational uses. In fact, all of the Romantic poets, with the exception of William Wordsworth, appear to have used it at some point. For example, Byron’s wife discovered that he had a phial of the Black Drop. Individuals such as Crabbe, Coleridge, De Quincey, Byron, or Keats were most likely even given it as a child to treat some sort of physical ailment.[28]

Originally, the claim was that "pizza" was one of the words being used as a code for child abuse. The context that and other words were being used in were very questionable. That was where the term #pizzagate came from. Then it turned into an investigation around a literal, physical pizza place, people stopped focusing on the suspicious emails (that implicated numerous people and locations) and started speculating whether there was a child sex dungeon down there in the basement of that pizza place. If there was one, it was cleaned up by the time anyone got a good look at it (I seem to recall the place might not have even had a basement). Then that was debunked and the whole thing blew over, even though none of the emails had been explained. The guy showing up at the place with a gun was also suspicious, as were the subsequent claims that the investigation was dangerous and people needed to basically stop talking about it. A real "shut it down" kind of operation took place, I'm sure of it.

Yes, I know what pizzagate is. My hypothesis is that the pizza place isn't the "pizza place" the mention in the e-mail.
