The syllabus says the teacher speaks in Spanish at all times and you must respond likewise. I had Spanish III at my old high school and it wasn't nearly as intense. Additionally it seems like the class will mostly be seniors because people tend to place in a 101 or 202 class at best, so they've already had a year of full immersion to adjust to this.

I'm learning English, It's pretty easy to write, but so fucking hard to pronounce. All the words looks like they are french but they are actually pronounced differently plus the "TH" sound.

There are two "th" sounds. Voiced and unvoiced. For example, "thorough" is unvoiced, but "then" is voiced. Unvoiced is easy, you just put your tongue between your top and bottom teeth and blow air, and you kinda do the same with voiced as well.

"The" as "duh" sounds a lot better than as "zuh".

Pimsleur does have lots of useful sayings to learn, so, it's not like it's bad. It also might be that I'm too much of a perfectionist and people move on to the next lesson before getting as much correct.

Obviously from a lexical and grammatical perspective it's rather basic, but still, I'm happy that I've gotten used to the vastly different grammar enough to the point where I'm starting to be able to understand things at a glance, rather than having to "reconstruct" the sentence in my head.

Not really false. I've travelled to France a number of times, and it's by far the least American friendly place in Europe. And that's before 4chan starts with the caliphate jokes. Spain, Italy and Germany are extremely friendly, France you end up with some lecture by a bartender about how Americans don't learn their language or how they butcher it when they come and try to speak it (gee, wonder why they don't learn it well), or some foreign policy scolding as if I'm some ambassador.

I am learning German and honestly most Germans I have to work with speak passable english. American ears are used to mangled, fucked up grammar, incorrect nouns so even if the english is bad its still effective.

However some Germans do not speak english and so I am learning German.

Wtf? Why? Articles are pretty important in German.

Default to masculine is the rule I've heard and what I usually do. Learn the little tricks to identify gender easy (-chen is neuter, -ung is female, etc) and that should give you a decent head start.

I'm learning Spanish. I learned a bit of grammar from a basic Spanish course in HS and then Duolingo, but most of what helped me learn was just consuming media in Spanish and talking with my friends/people in general when I'm in Mexico in Spanish. Rn I'm watching some netflix series in spanish, and reading a book on Castro. My question is, should I be doing any formal studying? Should I be doing pimsleur or Anki or something, or reading grammar guides? I ask because I took a placement test for Spanish at my college that I am going to attend for the first time in 5 days, and they put me in native speaker classes, but I am nowhere near fluent, so I need to get my ass in gear(I'm dual majoring in Spanish and mathematics, so I need to do well in it).

It's significantly harder for no reason. If you want to know German, learn German. If you want to learn Russian, learn Russian. Either one is going to take you years to learn. Doing both at the same time will only extend the amount of time it'll take.

Polyglots are capable of learning multiple languages at a time, but polyglots are completely obsessed with learning languages. Unless you're willing to sacrifice all of your free time to it, just stick to one. It's a rewarding experience even with just one, and the other language will still be there in 2-3 years when you've learned the first (you can even learn the 2nd language using the first).

I tried learning Spanish but memorizing the el / la / los / las for every single word drove me crazy because it had 0 logic to it. Why is soap male but university is female? I know english is like that sometimes but every single word having to be male/female, I can't stand stuff like that.

Is it really that hard? I've learned some Portuguese, and even talked with native speakers, and never got comments about my r's, and as best I can tell, they sound similar to native speakers' ones, the finer points of accent not withstanding.

Because brazilians generally don't roll their r's (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental,_alveolar_and_postalveolar_trills) , they just do this (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental,_alveolar_and_postalveolar_flaps)

Already asked this in the deutsch thread but it's probably better suited here

Ok, so I placed into a 2002 level kraut course (it goes 1001, 1002, 2001, 2002, then some upper level shit). Problem: I can only read it somewhat proficiently, I can't actually form spoken or written sentences beyond very basic <10 word ones.
Is there a way I can get good enough at that to pass the class within 3 months or so?
