I went to Istambul. The touristic areas are nice but once you step outside them everything looks like a thirdworlder shithole. My hotel was at the city center in the most touristic zone and when I went to take a walk to explore a bit I entered some kind of dystopian hood with abandoned-like wooden houses (except people lived there) with holes in the roof and walls, no windows, many didn't even have doors. The street wasn't even paved and families were burning stuff right there in the middle and there were kids running around without shoes everywhere. This vision blew my mind. Keep in mind this was just 5 streets away from my hotel, I don't even want to imagine what's like in the outskirts of the city.
Plus turks are the typical annoying and overbearing semite trying to scam you at any chance. Unprofessionalism is rampant too so expect things to be subpar.
