Really? In some places you can join the US military as a foreigner and get a path to citizenship. I almost joined the FFL out of high school because I wanted to move to France.

Could have changed. I looked into it many years ago before I got Canadian citizenship (I'm US) and was told no, so I joined the Marine Corps instead.
I looked at the FFL too. Did you go to France? That's the first step to enlist. I never went after reading how terribly they treat their troopers.
